Constant Motivation
How many times do you start the day thinking “I am tired of this, another day at the office/coal face…..”?
What is it that motivates us to get up, to get on with the day and how much enjoyment do we expect to find?
The latter question is the whole point. Most people do not expect to find joy in their working day, so they don’t get any. For those of who do expect joy and job satisfaction get it and sometimes in spades…
Motivation is needed for many reasons; one being that we have to work to live. That is what the majority of the population believe. Paying the mortgage or rent, the utility bills, the children’s costs, we HAVE to have holidays, new televisions, gadgets and computers. We need to earn money, so that is sufficient to motivate us to get up in the morning and DO something.
The problem is that it’s because of all these pressures that some people just give up. They go sick, taking stress on board so personally they become ill. Some take to drink or drugs, some even fake death or run away. It’s their way of getting off the treadmill of life and seeing if there is something better somewhere else.
Living is not just accepting our situation but to love it. To find joy and happiness is everyday tasks, this is in itself a joy. Think of the monks and nuns who live (and have lived for many years) in enclosed communities, they too have the stresses but they have a faith. It may not sit well with us of current generations but faith, in something bigger than we are, does inspire and motivate us.
Maybe a life could be, not bounded by faith necessarily but by a constant desire to help others, to create in our passing a sound and enduring legacy.
We do need money but not wealth, holidays but not in the Seychelles, a television (not really) and a computer but not necessarily the latest model, we do need to spend money on our families but not to excess.
Every day motivation is all about self belief. I am talking here to entrepreneurs who have already or are just now getting a deal out of life. A good deal, a possible deal but at some level a deal. You are already motivated to do what you do and it is, no doubt your intention to do better and better……
We have come, at this particular time in the history of evolution, to think of life as a series of hurdles to be jumped, of jobs to have done, people to have seen, events to have enjoyed and loves to have conquered. If this is your motivation then maybe, just maybe you could consider the other options.
Your business could give back just as much joy to others as you choose to put into it and take out for yourself.
Help employees and colleagues to see life and work as a gift not a chore
Add value to everything you do; give and give again.
Your attitude to what you do in life is where you will find your joy.
Needless to say a positive attitude is preferable!! Love what you do and do what you love.
