Living in a stressful world

If you are not suffering some sort of stress you will be in a minority because most people today are stressed about something.

In fact the majority of people will be stressed about quite a few things; work, the people at work, the job at work, the lack of understanding at work, the travel to work, the lack of recognition, the poor pay…etc. the list is endless. Then on top of that there is the rest of life; home life, family, recreation, exercise and a social life.

Did you say social life? What social life? What, no time to chat to a friend?

So maybe you started your own business. This gives you control over your own time; yes it does. It’s only that working for yourself, especially in the early days can require a huge amount of effort for very little reward. And you gave up a good job to do this?

Even entrepreneurs with a business doing well will find some days stressful. In fact it’s often when the company is OK and things are looking positive that the stress gremlins creep in again. “Maybe it’s time expand, or sell and move on….it’s all about timing and what if I miss the big opportunity!”

Fact; stress is the major cause of illness in the world today.
It is also necessary, it gets us up in the morning and helps to create focus and drive.

"Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances."

—Thomas Jefferson

So, how do we do it?

Here are some guidelines that have proved useful to me and my clients, they are all common sense but so many people have forgotten what we all used to know!

Eat breakfast, drink more water and not so much coffee, have a decent lunch break and take time to breathe fresh air (or as fresh you can get).

Get sufficient rest and sleep, no they are not the same. Rest is a change from your work and is part of your day; sleep is the eight hours you spend in your bed.

Take regular exercise, it’s good for you and will get rid of tension held in the body. EFT has a similar effect and you don’t even have to raise a sweat!

Never take criticism to heart, objective comments are good; if they are not made in that spirit then the person saying them has the problem, not you.

When you get angry at someone remember that they too have stress, try visualising them sitting on the loo….it will make you smile and take your anger out of the situation.

When you are driving remember you were once a learner, your parents or grandparents are getting older and there are people out there not quite as able as you may be.

This is the good one; for every negative thought or comment you say, think or say two positive ones until you automatically think and talk in the positive.

Quote “All unhappiness and stagnation results from a feeling that you are at the mercy of the world and the people in it”.

Now just why would you ever feel like that?

You don’t have to suffer unhappiness and stress, or let it become a part of your life. Think how positive the achievers of this world cope – you can be there too, it’s all a matter of developing a ‘can do’ attitude with a sense of humour and a smile.

Take action now to reduce your stress levels. If not now, when, if not here, where?

Newbie Newbie - Hello Everyone! I am new here on the EvanCarmichael forum, and thought I should introduce myself first. I am an entrepreneur too, work in web design/seo/marketing, and love being in business, although it is hard work and stressful. Re: What Do you Prefer More - Time or Money Re: What Do you Prefer More - Time or Money - Living the moment. I am living the moment since 4 years ago, after the docs found cancer. They removed it, of course, and since then I just do what i want. Jumping from an airplane was one thing, that was great. Now I want to fly to the moon. I need money for that.
Re: How many vacation and sick days do you give yourself? Re: How many vacation and sick days do you give yourself? - My experience is similar to GT bulmer, I work at a slower pace, the stuff I'd get done 9-5, I do formyself but during a longer period of time, and taking frequent breaks inbetween. I worked as an employee for seevral years and foudn that stressing over waking up 7 in the morning, getting breakfast, having a shave, shower, going to the toilet, getting dressed in one hour and then leaving for work at 8, to arrive at 9, was just far too stressful. I was never a morning person and always struggled in the mornings, and prefer a slow start to the day, spend 3 hours getting out of "sleep mode" and then fire away until 7 in the evening. I would say I work harder and get more things done, but it's on my own terms. I could never work as hard as I do for someone else. It wouyld be far too stressful and I wouldn;'t have the profit motive, if I was on a salary. I don't get as much "leisure time", I try to do one activity per day, where it's muay thai training, salsa dancing, or strength training. I been on holiday maybe twice this year, and a lot of the times I do work during weekends too even if it's not active stuff, juast monitoring my websites and replying to customer contact. Maybe when I start makijng a lot more money I will delegate more work, but during the recession I'm cutting back on all that, and doing the work myself.
