Written by: Glenn Ebersole

Article Overview: The title of this article is derived from the title of a very popular 1960s song by the band, Chicago. It is also a question that needs to be asked in our businesses today. Do you know what time it is in your business when it comes to how much time is wasted in business each year? The title of this article is derived from the title of a very popular 1960s song by the band, Chicago. It is also a question that needs to be asked in our businesses today. Do you know what time it is in your business when it comes to how much time is wasted in business each year? The best answer is probably, “Time to stop wasting time!”

It has been reported that the average person spends 150 hors each year looking for misplaced information. Wow, talk about a time waster! Think about the magnitude of this type of lost time when accumulated over all our businesses and organizations. What would happen if you and others in your company spent those 150 hours doing something productive? Imagine what could be achieved. Okay, let’s list a few thoughts that hopefully will stimulate your imagination to determine what you can do. You could:

1. Spend more time working “on your business” rather than only working “in your business.”

2. Spend time working on your strategic thinking and planning efforts and clearly communicate the company vision.

3. Identify tasks that could be delegated to others.

4. Manage employee’s use of technology to reduce the wasted hours on email, instant messaging and the Internet.

5. Seek ideas from employees to increase efficiency.

6. Use the “found time” to market to existing clients or to seek new clients.

7. Identify other sources of wasted time, beyond the searching for misplaced information and develop a plan to reduce or eliminate the largest source of wasted time.

8. Develop a list of “projects” or “Things To Do” with any “found time” from eliminating wasted time.

Our time is a very precious commodity. Everyone, regardless of his or her station in life, has the same amount of time in each day. Once time is spent, it is gone forever, which is why it is so critical to take a strategic look at how we spend our time. If you want to look and learn how you and your company can make more strategic use of time and waste much less time, please contact me today through my website at www.renaissanceman4u.com or by email at jgecoach@aol.com .

Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.
