Does your company or organization have great skilled and talented people, but lack the achievement of desired positive results? Do you have a feeling that you could be more efficient, productive, successful and passionate about your work? Have you wanted to change direction, but simply had no idea where to start or how to do it? If you answered YES to any of these questions, there is good news for you. The answer is the power of coaching.

The power of coaching appears to be getting stronger and stronger as more and more people engage the services of a coach. Everyone can benefit from having someone assist, guide and support them in achieving their goals and dreams. A coach inspires you to achieve higher levels of success. You benefit from having an individual working as your coach committed to your definition of success and who will guide and support you to reach your potential.

Here is something I would suggest you do to get a perspective on what is going on in the workplace today. Please make an observation the next time you go into your workplace the first thing in the morning. Look around. Who is beginning their workday filled with excitement and is eager to start their workday? My belief is that you will not have difficulty in counting them. And why do I say that? I say that based upon my personal and professional experiences and Gallup polls
that indicates up to 71% of all employees are disengaged from their work and that they are “not there” and is just walking around without any energy to do work.

Coaching is about helping people realize their potential. And coaching is about developing good people into top performers. Successful businesses and organizations succeed because they have top talent who are responsible and willing to be held accountable for their personal performance.

In preparing to write this article I looked for some quotes on the power of coaching and found several. I want to share five (5) of my favorites that I believe really illustrate the power of coaching.

"I never cease to be amazed at the power of the coaching process to draw out the skills or talent that was previously hidden within an individual, and which invariably finds a way to solve a problem previously thought unsolvable." John Russell, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson Europe Ltd.

“I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.” Bob Nardelli, CEO, Home Depot

“We’ve done lots of research over the past three years, and we’ve found that leaders who have the best coaching skills have better business results.”
Tanya Clemens, V.P. of Global Executive & Organizational Development at IBM, Time, 9/25/00

“Corporations believe that coaching helps keep employees and that the dollar investment in it is far less than the cost of replacing an employee.”
David A. Thomas, Fitzhugh Professor of Business Administration, Harvard Business School, Time, 9/25/00

"If ever stressed-out corporate America could use a little couch-time, it's now. Trust in big companies is at an all-time low. Baby-boomers have been burned; Gen Xers aren't expecting the corporation to take care of them. Under the circumstances, employees are much likelier to go outside and get independent advice to help them be better managers."
Karen Cates, Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior, Northwestern University, Kellogg Graduate School of Management

I believe these quotes capture the essence of what I wanted to convey to the reader with regards to the awesome power of coaching. By the simple act of hiring a coach, people will move from something they “want” to something they “commit” to achieve! The dynamics of coaching is very powerful and people that work with coaches take themselves more seriously and are supported in focusing on their commitment. Professional athletes are very clear why they have coaches. And so are professional actors, actresses and singers. Coaches make sure the people they are working with are at the top of their game and are producing positive results. So if you got skills and talents without positive results, get the power of coaching.

Re: What can You Learn from a Jobless and Homeless Woman? Re: What can You Learn from a Jobless and Homeless Woman? - Positive thinking and a desire for success are fundamental qualities of an entrepreneur in my opinion.
Re: What inspires you? Re: What inspires you? - Put a Visual Board of your dream and look at it for 10 days. And see the fun. Another inspiration thing is to have "Constant Positive Affirmations". This really shifts energy towards your goal. Say it in the morning and before bed. Robert
Run a major competition Run a major competition - You beat me to the punch LoveInventions! I was just on my way to post this! The idea is simple: run a competition for a major prize to get people posting. In this case Darren put up a $729 Nikon DSLR up for grabs as the top prize. The winner was selected randomly and each post you wrote gave you another chance to win. [quote:1nc4sv0r]The Goal - the aim of the exercise was simple. To sign up new members to my forum and increase page views. My hope was to have a bumper month but also get new members signed up to have an ongoing impact on overall activity going forward.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: Traffic - Over the full month traffic was increased 66.7%.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: New Members - Recruiting new members to the forum was another goal of the competition. We’d had an influx in January of 1803 new sign ups as a result of a previous smaller competition but since had been around the 1200 per month. April however saw a boost in numbers by an extra 2823 members.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r]Results: Activity - Another bonus related to increased traffic is the increases in user activity on the forum. Here’s the increase in new ‘threads’ to the forum (up from the 1500’s to just over 4000 for the month). And here is the increase in new posts (up from 1400 per month to over 43000 for the month).[/quote:1nc4sv0r] [quote:1nc4sv0r] The Downside So far it’s sounding fairly rosy isn’t it. Increases in traffic, members, activity and even earning are all good. However there was two downsides. 1. Moderation Workload - I have an amazing team of moderators to DPS but the month of April was the hardest that they’ve ever worked. I totally underestimated the extra load upon them in setting up this competition. It has made me reconsider how I run future competitions. 2. Impact upon Quality of Reader Interaction - over all the increased activity of the site brought in some wonderful new members who are interacting on the site with genuine interaction. However a small number of new members were just there for the competition - even though I made it clear that spammy entries wouldn’t win. This impacted moderators workloads but also the overall morale on the site a little. I think we managed to contain it but again - next time I run a competition it’ll not be based upon post numbers but rather some sort of quality level of interaction.[/quote:1nc4sv0r] What do you guys think? Is it worth testing out? Considering we already give out over $1,000 in month prizes, what would be the ultimate prize that we award at the end of the competition?
Re: Who hates cold calling? Re: Who hates cold calling? - About 15 years ago I worked for this sales company that used to sell anything from Kitchen Knives to Dry Cell Torches. The owner was a very motivating guy and he would ask us to get to the office by 7.00AM and we could sing and dance for an hour before we went to sell the products in the streets, stopping anyone and telling them our products were on discount. We used to sell snow to Eskimos, why were we able to do that? because of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). The key to cold calling is like beauty, in eyes of the beholder. If you have no PMA, you cannot sell. Remember the law of average that states that if you went to a dance and every girl or guy you approached for a dance decline your proposal. What do you do? Do you stop? If you have a PMA, you continue until you get one person who agree to dance with you despite how ugly you look, that is is PMA and that is the power of cold calling.
Re: Don’t worry, Enrich your life and Be happy Re: Don’t worry, Enrich your life and Be happy - [quote="lisa":1rc4ik2q]Start saying positive things especially about yourself. How you communicate to yourself affects your thinking and your emotions, as well as your self-esteem.Change your mental pictures. What and how you see yourself and your surroundings make a difference to your thinking.Read more. Read about how those people who fought fear with courage and succeeded in life. Through reading, you will gain new knowledge and understanding and it will help you clear whatever is blocking your thinking and create more ideas. [/quote:1rc4ik2q] Lisa is right about this. Positive self talk can really make a difference. When you catch yourself saying something negative (whether verbally or just thinking it), turn it around and make it into the opposite. You have to remember to do this continually until it's just habit that the positive thought/saying becomes the first thing you hear instead of the second. It becomes automatic.
