How can you know a real leader when you see one? What do real leaders do that define them as leaders? Many people may consider themselves leaders, but in reality do not demonstrate principles of leadership and are not leaders at all.
In today’s world there are many imposters posing as leaders.

In order to assist you in identifying leaders in your company or organization, I have selected seven (7) actions that I believe real leaders take that define them as “real leaders.” Those seven (7) actions are:

1. Develops and presents a clear vision in a concise manner so that everyone in the organization knows where the organization is heading.

2. Focuses on the vision and concentrates on moving forward to achieve the vision and goals for the organization.

3. Keeps an open mind to recognize when a change of direction is needed in the organization.

4. Gives credit and passes along kudos to those who deserve to get the credit.

5. Creates a solid team that believes in the established vision.

6. Teaches and learns from people they work with and come in contact with each day.

7. Supports team members with the resources they need to be effective.

These seven (7) actions are based upon principles I believe in from my own personal and professional experiences in more than 35 years of professional work. If you find someone doing the seven (7) actions listed above, you have found a real leader.

Starting a New Business Starting a New Business - I think magonaga identified one of the most important ingredients for starting a new business in its simplest terms...."Sheer bloody tenacious determination". The only thing that I would add to this is the need for a plan. There are many methodologies for planning, but I believe that the most effective is also the simplest.
Step back from the excitement and anxiety, close your eyes and visualize your goal Identify all of the ingredients (e.g. office/store, legal paperwork, contracts, products) that you need to make your vision a reality Identify all of the ingredients that you need to get the previous ingredients (equipment, training, partnerships, mentors, marketing materials) Prioritize all of the ingredients Sketch out a timeline for how all of these ingredients come together to achieve your goal Execute the timeline...with a liberal dose of magonaga's advice
When all is said and done in the realm of planning, take heed of Dwight D. Eisenhower's advice "Plans are nothing. Planning is everything". Even though your timeline may not go as planned, the fact that you devoted the time towards planning will help you understand the impacts of changes to your plan and react more effectively to unforeseen events. May God bless you in your endeavors!
