Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach is continuously stressing the importance of effective communication. And remember, effective communication does not just mean knowing the right words to say. Emotions and body language play a very important role in transmitting your message. It is also true that body language says a lot about what you're feeling and thinking as of the moment. Knowing how to read a person's emotions based on his or her body language and gestures is a strategic communications skill. Do you know how to sense if somebody is anxious, angry, happy, surprised, or sad by observing and evaluating only his or her body movements? Here are some ways you can read emotions through your observations of a person’s body language.

ANXIOUS: the person has a pale face and dry lips; starts perspiring profusely; fidgets a lot and has shifty eyes; keeps shaking his or her leg or tapping his or her foot; makes sudden movements after a while of being still; and stutters.

ANGRY: the person pounds his or her fist on the table and speaks loudly; clenches his or her fist and leans forward when talking to you; bares his or her teeth and appears to be snarling as he or she talks; and has tense muscles.

HAPPY: the person smiles a lot; he or she may do a little skip as he or she walks; has relaxed facial muscles and fluid movements; and may hum or sing to himself or herself.

SURPRISED: the person suddenly opens his or her mouth; suddenly takes a step back; and widens his or her eyes or clamps his or her hand over his or her mouth.

SAD: the person has trembling lips and cannot look you straight in the eye and sometimes even has tears forming; slumps his or her body; and uses a rather flat or weak tone of voice.

These represent only a few of the indicators of the key human emotions. Some might even overlap. When you think about it, part of body language reading is a combination of skill and sensitivity. There really is no hard-and-fast rule about what body language pertains to what emotion, but there are general signals that can be found in most people.

Your strategic thinking business coach encourages you to be a lifelong learner and to be committed to continuous improvement in your skills, especially your communications skills. Learning to read emotions through body language is very strategic. Re: Business Coaching Resources Re: Business Coaching Resources - You're fortunate when you can find a Business Coach who has experience beyond where you've been and even where you are going. When your budget is slim and even after, it's good to have a mentor. Several of various backgrounds are very useful. They can be teachers, professors, pastors, business people, family members, bosses and former bosses. You have to be clear on what you want and what you desire to achieve, be able to convey it as simply as possible. Stop and listen and don't over tax their time. You should always expect results whether from a Business Coach or Mentors. If you're not gtting results, you're either not focused or you need to upgrade the quality of your mentors/coaches. Always surround yourself by people smarter than you.
Finding creativity Finding creativity - Great topic Andy! For me it's: - Going for a walk (I always try to get out at least once during the day) - Taking a shower - Reading business magazines (especially Inc and Business 2.0) - Late at night (I'm more productive / creative at night than during the day) - Relaxing with a drink at the bookstore
Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - Hi Tami, Have you reviewed other comparable sites and coaches? I think that you will find that they have positioned themselves a bit more 'out there', and they dont focus on cheap pricing as the key benefit. I think your copy needs to be much tighter with a focus on the key features and BENEFITS that group coaching provides. Look at The Strategic Coach model etc. Your bio needs to be stronger if you are going to be pitching business development and leadership development. Also, have you put together a strategy for list building and promotions? how many subscribers do you have currently. Local networking as well as grouping some of your existing clients into the first BETA group might help. People dont like 'NEW" services because it comes off that they will be the guinea pigs. Those are my initial thoughts for now. Hope it helps. I'll try and spend some more time reviewing over the weekend and get back to you! Jude
Business Innovation Business Innovation - Hi Simon If you can finish off the Business Plan and think about your strategic direction or how you are going to use your product to convince people it's a great idea, it will set the foundation for your programming project. You see, when you are looking for funding you will need a Business Plan and Strategic Plan that will convince companies to invest into your new idea. Has anyone achieved this idea before using another industry besides health and fitness that you know of? You should also design some mockups as a "preview" for your programming project. This will also help reduce your programming costs as everyone will know exactly what you want if you have detailed mockups already completed including any functionality you require. Starting mockups for websites and software applications on paper is the best way if you're not a guru in graphic editing software.
