Recently I read about a study conducted in 2001, which included approximately 20,000 exit interviews. A major finding in the study was that poor communications skills of supervisors were a leading factor in poor supervisory behavior, which caused people to leave their jobs. And I believe there is plenty of evidence today that there are many people who have been promoted into management and supervisory positions without the proper communications skills and therefore are causing this dysfunctional behavior to continue in many workplaces.

Okay coach, what do you prescribe to take care of these poor communication skills of managers and supervisors? Well, your strategic thinking business coach wants to share thirteen (13) powerful communication tips for them, as well as others in the workplace. Here they are:

1. Commit to becoming an effective listener. And learn how to “hear” what people are saying to you.

2. Conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings with people that work with you. And give them your full attention when meeting with them.

3. Demonstrate the core values of your company or organization on a consistent basis in whatever you do in your communications with fellow employees and those you supervise and manage.

4. Be sure you make extra efforts to ensure that all those people that need to know are told what they need to know and in a timely manner. For performance issues, this means communicating with them well before an annual performance review.

5. Discuss personal and delicate matters in person, preferably face-to-face or if need be by telephone, rather than via email.

6. Ensure confidentiality in communications where appropriate and required.

7. Learn how to effectively communicate with groups of employees.

8. Actively seek feedback from your staff and fellow employees about your own communications.

9. Make eye contact with the person or persons with whom you are communicating.

10. Send a consistent message by making your words; gestures facial expressions and tone of voice match your message.

11. Stay focused on the present, your feelings, understanding one another and finding a solution.

12. Ask for assistance if you need it.

13. Practice, practice, practice your communication skills!

Business Coaching Internship Review Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
Re: Business Coaching Resources Re: Business Coaching Resources - You're fortunate when you can find a Business Coach who has experience beyond where you've been and even where you are going. When your budget is slim and even after, it's good to have a mentor. Several of various backgrounds are very useful. They can be teachers, professors, pastors, business people, family members, bosses and former bosses. You have to be clear on what you want and what you desire to achieve, be able to convey it as simply as possible. Stop and listen and don't over tax their time. You should always expect results whether from a Business Coach or Mentors. If you're not gtting results, you're either not focused or you need to upgrade the quality of your mentors/coaches. Always surround yourself by people smarter than you.
Business Tips Business Tips - How about: Tips for managers to handle employees more effectively? Tips on how to deal with difficult customers? Tips on how to deal more effectively with suppliers? The only three I have in mind right now, but will try to come up with something else. Chris

I think that you will find that they have positioned themselves a bit more 'out there', and they dont focus on cheap pricing as the key benefit. I think your copy needs to be much tighter with a focus on the key features and BENEFITS that group coaching provides. Look at The Strategic Coach model etc. Your bio needs to be stronger if you are going to be pitching business development and leadership development. Also, have you put together a strategy for list building and promotions? how many subscribers do you have currently. Local networking as well as grouping some of your existing clients into the first BETA group might help. People dont like 'NEW" services because it comes off that they will be the guinea pigs.
