Each of us has the same amount of time each day. Yet, some people are so much more strategic and effective in the use of that time each day. People are constantly telling me how “busy” they are and I usually respond with a question,
“What does busy mean?” Many people are “busy” doing tasks but are not accomplishing anything. They have not set goals or deadlines and have not focused on anything. And they waste unbelievable hours of time each day. What about you? How good a steward are you of your time each day?
I imagine a number of readers, if they are really honest, will admit they could be better time managers and could certainly improve on the effective use of their time. So, Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach will share some strategic tips to help you increase the effective use of your time.
Strategic Tip #1: Develop a clearly defined and focused vision for your business life and your personal life.
Strategic Tip #2: Set specific goals and objectives and assign due dates for each of them.
Strategic Tip #3: Be proactive, rather than reactive.
Strategic Tip #4: Manage the clutter on your desk and within your work area. You must know where to find things and not waste time looking for items you misplaced or are buried somewhere under a pile of paper.
Strategic Tip #5: Move on after you have achieved your goal. Don’t fall prey to the “perfectionist syndrome” and keep doing more and more work to try to get it perfect.
Strategic Tip #6: Ask yourself: “Is this what I should be doing right now?” to determine if you are doing unproductive or less productive work.
Strategic Tip #7: Learn and commit to saying “NO” at the right time so you can keep focused on your commitments to yourself and others.
Strategic Tip #8: Delete unproductive activities. Analyze what you do and how your activities affect your success. Discard and stop the unproductive activities.
Strategic Tip #9: Develop and use a strategic TO DO list and review it the first thing each day. You may also want to develop a NOT TO DO LIST as a reminder of what you do not want to do to distract you from your commitments.
Strategic Tip #10: Don’t enable time wasters in your day. Eliminate unproductive and unnecessary meetings and unfocused and meandering conversations without a specific purpose. Designate a “Do Not Disturb” time into your schedule for tasks requiring concentration and uninterrupted time for work.
