Building upon another article I wrote on important lessons learned for leaders, I have thought about what additional important “lessons learned” for leaders that could be shared. The potential reward and return on efforts related to the strategic action to identify the “lessons learned” from our experiences merits additional thought. And with further thought I found another great quote to share to confirm the value and importance of the “lessons learned” approach. The following is a quote from John Keats. “Don't be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterwards carefully avoid.”
So what are some more important "lessons learned" for leaders? Your strategic Thinking Business Coach offers the following list of ten (10) more important “lessons learned” for leaders.
1. Recognize and realize the substances that can and will cloud your judgment and will therefore have a negative impact on your leadership abilities. And avoid the use of those substances.
2. Recognize and realize the powerful negative impact from attitudes of prejudice and bias that will diminish your leadership abilities. And avoid those attitudes.
3. Always spread your risk. Take a strategic approach to managing the various areas of risk in your business and personal life.
4. Always be careful before you “judge a book by its cover.”
5. Always seek to acquire knowledge from others.
6. Always define and pursue a vision for your business and your personal life.
7. Always strive to do more than just listen to someone. Strive to listen, to hear and to understand what someone is saying.
8. Realize that everything you have ever learned will be useful and important to you someday and sometime. And be open to use that learning when opportunity presents itself to you.
9. Always be yourself! Don’t try to be someone else.
10. Always hold yourself accountable.
Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach recommends that you commit to focus on the “lessons learned” from all of your life experiences in order to grow as a leader in your business and in your personal life
