Do you know any successful entrepreneurs? What do you believe are the characteristics that are common among the successful men and women who start and succeed in their own businesses? Here are thirteen thoughtful, tried and true characteristics that I believe define the successful entrepreneur.

1. Overpowering need to achieve. They constantly seek to perform at their best. They are goal oriented, like to be unique and strive to accomplish results based on their own efforts.
2. Courage. Simply put – they have the “guts” to strike out on their own and alone.
3. Optimism. The pure entrepreneur possesses an almost boundless amount of optimism and it never seems to end. Setbacks are viewed as new opportunities and learning experiences.
4. Positive mental attitude. Successful entrepreneurs exhibit confidence and believe in their abilities to succeed.
5. Strong self-motivation. They are driven by needs, desires and will power.
6. Think success. They develop a clear vision of what they want to achieve. They visualize success in their minds.
7. Passionate. They want to achieve change and they pursue their vision with an intense personal passion. They simply love what they do.
8. Planning. They develop specific goals to achieve their vision and they commit their goals in writing. They are disciplined to force themselves to do what they need to do to accomplish their goals.
9. Networking. They form alliances with those who can help them and whom they can help in return.
10. Lifelong learner. They are willing to learn, to ask questions, remain curious, interested and open to new information and knowledge.
11. Perseverance. They persist in times of adversity and are able to bounce back, pick themselves up and begin again.
12. Work hard. They work hard and they quickly tell you they had to work more than 60 hours per week at the start of their business.
13. Effective communicator. They have effective listening, speaking and writing skills.

Do you possess these characteristics? Would you like to find out if you could be a successful entrepreneur? I would be pleased to talk with you about your entrepreneurial interests. CEOs and Email - Slaves? CEOs and Email - Slaves? - I wonder if the emails they are responding to are filtered thru their assistants first 'cos they seem to spend a lot of their off hours responding to them. True they are successful but I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay that price. I'd be interested to know what's the in the typical day planner of Entrepreneurs on the Forum. Entrepreneurs are a different breed than Paid Employees- so it would be interesting to view the contrast.
Diamonds vs. squares Diamonds vs. squares - True True - I put on 10 pounds after eating sliced cheese that was endorsed by a wrestler when I was a kid... A diamond shreddie is a lot cheaper than LeBron James - LOL!

Re: Web Idea Re: Web Idea - Hi Som, Welcome aboard. Almost everything that I can add is already mentioned by the ever-active, respected members of the Forum. But I would like to bring it to your attention that whenever we have our idea and nurture it for long, it becomes something like our baby and we are all possessive about that. True. Now the question is that as we are mostly possessive of our idea how far can we go about it? I mean, you say your idea is fresh as morning coffee. True to you but have you researched and actually tried to find out the feasibility part of it? I have also been a programmer and as such I feel that many of the ideas that we have generally look seemingly better in book but when it comes to reality, there is a difference. So I would recommend you to re-consider the idea. Not as Som but as someone who is a client of the idea. Please step into the shoes and find out whether you would go for the product as a client! If yes, then lets start with doing a market research and the follow up with the other formalities. Reason being that its getting late and the Coffee may lose its freshness! Good Luck,
Re: True Characteristics of an Entrepreneur Re: True Characteristics of an Entrepreneur - Hi all, well first off, let me explain, this is my first post as I have only recently joined this site and feel this site can be an extremely useful one, hence why i have joined. Secondly, reading this post, ideasuniversity had some great "textbook" assumptions or theory for being "True Characteristics of an Entrepreneur" however, in the discussion below/above, their is mention of online tests or quizzes to determine if you would make a good or bad entrepreneur. I would like to add my comments here on this, i believe in some cases, this test would provide a true answer, however, a test or quiz can only be as good as the person/persons who judge or create the answers therefore, if the creator of these is of different stature, personality or have different view points on the same particular question, this would not necessarily provide the "correct" answer, however, i have always been taught there are two meanings to everything and without being able ot explain your answers (which you can't in a multiple choice), then this would not always be accurate. with regards to litekepr's business plan, everyone in business recommends a business plan, obviously this helps with the goal and helps with your developments and prospectus in terms of keeping yourself on track, the business plan whilst it may have advised your lecturer that the business idea/concept would of failed, does not necessarily say it will. i am a true believer of trying, give it a go and go hard at it, give it all you have, thats my attitude with business, 2 different people can have the exact same concept of a business, 1 will fail and the other probably wont, because 1 will have the attitude and the drive the other wont, 2 different people will look at the same situation differently, even if they were taught the same concepts. I have seen, many many times, TAFE and Universities teach their students how to research and using sites such as google to find their answers, however, as an employer, I advise their students to ask their "teacher" some real life scenario questions, the teacher is unable to provide an answer or a correct answer, so my point being, what may not seem practical in the classroom or lecture, can be different in the real world given that with real life experiences, an idea or concept can go a lot further than it would in theory in a classroom. I hope my two cents are welcomed. Steven Hayes SEMRAY Pty Ltd
