It is probably safe to say that many, if not most, people struggle with the management of their time. Time is priceless and we each are allotted the same 24 hours each day. However, it seems there is an eternal struggle with the clock and that we are very challenged in trying to mange out time. The sense of pressure and constant urgency at home, at work, and elsewhere in our daily lives leads to us believing that there is simply never enough time.

And so with our perceived and believed lack of time, we worry about time and seem to think time is not, or is never, on our side and is looked at as our enemy. But what would happen if we decided to imagine that we had all the time in the world, no restraints on our time, and there was time for “everything?” Would that make a difference? Would we know what to do or would we get trapped into thinking we would not get anything done because we had all the time we needed now?

Those questions seem to provide some challenging and conflicting thoughts. And we would ask how to place a value on a slow, relaxing, and easygoing life, as compared to the life where we wanted to achieve major accomplishments and help make the world a better place? Can we see that it is not time itself, but the use of time that presents us with our conflict?

So what can we do? How can we deal with this conflict and choose time as a friend? Succinctly expressed, It would mean that we make peace with time and declare time our friend. Here are seven (7) suggestions from your strategic thinking business coach.

1. Place a very high “value” on your time. Look at how you spend your time and the return you receive for your time spent. Ask yourself some challenging questions about the use of your time and decide if you are being a good steward of your time.

2. Break your tasks down into smaller doable activities to accomplish your tasks with a more strategic use of time.

3. Set aside some discretionary time every day that is “just for you.” Do whatever you choose to help you relax, slow down and enjoy that special time for you.

4. Release yourself from worrying about things over which you have absolutely no control and then use that time in a more positive and strategic way.

5. Commit to some time for rest during the day and do nothing else.

6. Commit to being the composer of your day. Decide what to do with your time each day in some organized and strategic manner.

7. View your time and everyone’s time as “priceless” and show respect for all time by using your time and others time as if it is the most precious gift we have.

Boldest Entrepreneur Moves of All Time = Christopher Columbus: "... he saw the possibility of treasure and commerce where others saw only danger. He committed so wholeheartedly to that vision that not even dozens of rejections and ongoing penury could dissuade him from pursuing a journey to Asia via the West. He built on his technical strengths as a seaman to plan a viable journey and eventually marshal an expedition." - Christopher Hoenig, 6 Essential Secrets for Thinking on a New Level I bought Hoenig's book about 10 years ago but couldn't make head or tail of it then... reading it now and finding it inspirational... 2.
