What It Takes To Be A Successful Small Business Owner, According To Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach

Did you ever wonder why some small business owners are so successful and are always steadily growing their business, as compared to others who constantly struggle to manage and grow their business? In my research and in reflecting on my own business coaching experiences I have found that there are several key characteristics of successful small business owners. Your Strategic Thinking Business Coach offers the following list of ten (10) key characteristics that describe the successful small business owner.

1. They are visionary and have the ability to create a clearly defined vision for their business. They see the value in clearly defining the strategic focus for their business.

2. They are never 100% satisfied. They are committed to continuous improvement in their business. They are aware of their successes and do celebrate their successes, but they are always looking for ways to improve their services and products, their systems and processes, their customer service and other aspects of their business.

3. They are lifelong learners and always look for the “lessons learned.” They are not afraid to make a mistake or to fail. Truly successful small business owners rarely, if ever, experience a “straight path” to their success. More common is a “hazardous and winding road” with failures and obstacles along the way.

4. They seek advice from business coaches, mentors and experts. The successful small business owner realizes he or she cannot be an expert in every aspect of their business. They also realize they can gain great value and insights from outside sources and reach out to those sources for advice.

5. They are optimists. This is especially true of entrepreneurs who own small businesses. They seem to always see the glass as half full, rather than half empty.

6. They hold themselves and others accountable. This is a rare characteristic of small business owners. Most small business owners are accountable only to themselves, which means they are not held accountable. This is another area where a business coach can be a valuable asset to the small business owner by holding them accountable.

7. They continuously build relationships. One of the key marketing strategies deals with building relationships and this must be a continuous activity.

8. They create opportunities rather than waiting for the opportunities to come to them. Even in crisis situations, the successful small business owner will look for and create opportunities.

9. They are effective strategic thinkers and planners and apply the principles of strategic thinking and planning to their business on a daily basis.

10. They are excellent listeners and really hear what their clients say. They have a commitment to understand what they have heard.

Re: Business Coaching Resources Re: Business Coaching Resources - You're fortunate when you can find a Business Coach who has experience beyond where you've been and even where you are going. When your budget is slim and even after, it's good to have a mentor. Several of various backgrounds are very useful. They can be teachers, professors, pastors, business people, family members, bosses and former bosses. You have to be clear on what you want and what you desire to achieve, be able to convey it as simply as possible. Stop and listen and don't over tax their time. You should always expect results whether from a Business Coach or Mentors. If you're not gtting results, you're either not focused or you need to upgrade the quality of your mentors/coaches. Always surround yourself by people smarter than you.
Exclusive: Interview with Results Exclusive: Interview with Results - Hi Forum Members, I'm helping start up a Business Coaching and Consulting company here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (a Subsidiary of RSC Business in Los Angeles). As a Research and Development Intern I am required to practice my listening and interview skills by surveying Small and Medium Businesses on thier Business. This Survey is designed by RSC Business to also assist the Business being interviewed more insight into their own business. I am looking to interview about 30 businesses across North America over the span of 3 months. At the end of these interviews I will be publishing a report of the results and they will be made available for free to the Interviewees. The Report data will include responses from a minimum of 100 interviews. I would like to extend this opportunity to members of the Forum. If you would like to have this short 20-30 minute interview conducted on your Business and you reside in North America please send me an email or PM. Please contact me at andy[at]jvprosperity[dot]com to arrange our interview and to get free access to the results when they are published.
New Study - Women prepare better business plans New Study - Women prepare better business plans - I found an article in Business Week and I found this quite interesting. [quote:ka7lg35i]Who Prepares Better Business Plans, Men or Women? A new study based on four years of data from men and women in a training program for microenterprises finds that they come out the same in quality scores. "However, women scored significantly better on the presentation of their plan to judges," conclude the study's authors, Ronald G. Cook, Paul Belliveau, and Christine Lentz of Rider University, in a paper presented at a recent meeting of the Small Business Institute. [/quote:ka7lg35i] What do you guys think?
Business Coaching Internship Review Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
