WOW! What a great time to be alive and to witness the accelerating change and increased complexity in our global world of work. The economy is shifting to a new economy and a new age where jobs are becoming “virtual” and we are conducting business in ways not even dreamed of a few years ago. The economy is moving rapidly toward services and knowledge work. And top management absolutely must realize that the old way of managing is not going to work.
Yes, I can just imagine some of the readers of this article wondering if I have “lost it” when I say this is exciting. Let me assure you that it is just the opposite of “lost it.” I have “found it” and want to let you know how to be successful in this new global business world. We now have more worldwide competition for business thanks to new technologies. And competition for jobs will come from more distant places.
We must understand that we will jeopardize our future if we resist change, get angry and hold onto our old ways of doing business. A strategic thinker knows that change brings opportunities. And with the speed and scope of changes we see occurring all around us, we can anticipate many great opportunities at a rapid pace for us personally and for our companies and organizations. Strategic thinkers will choose to identify astounding opportunities, more job freedom and more personal growth. And that is why I am so excited about these changes.

Strategic Commitment #6: Commit to holding yourself accountable for outcomes.
Strategic Commitment # 7: Commit to providing more value that what you cost. Add value so everyone sees what would be missed if you were not there.
Strategic Commitment #8: Commit to an ever-improving performance level for yourself.
Strategic Commitment #9: Commit to assuming ownership of problems. Take the initiative and the lead in starting efforts to develop solutions.
Strategic Commitment #10: Commit to assuming personal responsibility for your career. Place your faith in the future and yourself and develop work habits to succeed in the Information Age.
