Life’s Big Desires - Your's for the Asking

As an Entrepreneur one of your primary responsibilities is to design a business model that supports business success and a clearly defined personal lifestyle. Being successful at planning and subsequent strategizing requires that you first process your desires at a deeply personal level. It is simply not possible to separate your inner game from business growth – it is all part of an effective working “system.” It is not that one must precede the other, but that they run through your life synergistically.

Set aside quality time to complete the following tasks; completing each one in depth, but allowing your creativity to flow naturally and easily.

1. Select a small spiral notebook – one that is easy to carry around with you. On each page list one thing that would vastly add value or joy to your life if you were to attain it over the next 5-10 years.

a. As you begin this process keep in mind that it is not necessary whether or not you think you can achieve it – it only matters that in your heart you feel your life would somehow be made better or more joyful by a certain item or perhaps an experience. For example, your list may begin with a new sporty Lexus, investment buildings, elegant clothing, annual tickets to the Symphony, travel tickets to Greece and Belize, and time and money to attend several personal and professional development seminars per year. You get the picture – and the list goes on, but it gets to be yours… and is to be an ongoing list of things that will give you the most amazing life you can imagine living!

Then, simply add new ideas each time you feel inspired by some other influence that reminded you of something you feel will enrich your life.

b. Get really descriptive and write down the reasons you want to fulfill a particular desire. For example: You may wish to have a large estate style home that allows you to live in a luxury Tudor style estate, along a tree lined street that serves double duty as a Bed and Breakfast in a town that keeps you close art and music and provides your patrons with a taste of all the culture that fills you with passion. You may desire to create a space where you can congregate with like-minded, creative personalities who are on a similar life journey to be enriched and fulfilled.
Put some drama into your description and your reasons because over time the extra words will empower you – making it easier to imagine, visualize and attain. All the words you use to craft your writing give life to your desire and make your subconscious more aware of exactly what it is you are seeking.

c. Begin to clip pictures from books and magazines or from the Internet that represent a visual of your desire. You may want to have someone help you identify your BIG DESIRES – this is often a fascinating process of gaining clarity about them and allowing another person to really see who you are. You may find this to be an exercise that really allows you to open up to your inner self – a being that frequently gets shut out in the hum drum of daily life.

d. Accept that there will be a natural integration of personal and professional desires, and seek to ensure that each of them will support your core values.

2. The following are simply ideas to get you started looking for those things that provide great joy in your life, I would imagine it is conceivable that you could easily expand this into hundreds of ideas. However, rather than put you in a place of stress about how large this could become, simply focus on getting started, and if you only have a few items – that is fine. Once you get comfortable with allowing yourself to feel your desires, you can expand the items as you become more openly aware of them.
a. I would like to visit
b. I would like to have (residence)
c. I would like to experience
d. I would like to acquire (skill)
e. I would like to meet
f. I would like to complete (project)
g. I would like to experience (health)
h. I would like to participate in (charity)
i. I would like to change (habits)

3. Ok, this is where the success factor separation sets in. Are you really serious about your achievement? If so, the task will be to thumb through your book everyday, and spend 15-20 minutes quiet time, looking at one or more items in your book, focusing on the pictures you have used for visuals – or taking time to collect more. This daily ritual of visualizing a desire in detail plants rich seeds of vision into a field of what I like to refer to as “infinite possibility and creation.” As you sit with your BIG DESIRES each day, respond to the few that seem to create more emotion in you than others, and write a bit more about why you want them, or how you see them as they become more real … moving closer from visualization to reality.

4. Another action step: Each day, pick one of those desires and decide to do something positive that moves you toward your aspiration. Make each action, no matter how large or small, an act of self-definition and creative purpose. As you work more with your BIG DESIRES, you will find yourself naturally attracted to one of them and will feel motivated to take one small step forward; it is this forward motion that is in sync with a deeper level of personal intuition that makes things begin to happen in ways that may sometimes astound you! Begin to include dates in your book – you will be amazed at how much more confident you will become as you see the activities being logged in and things happening because of the actions you take.

5. Strive to live in a state of gratitude. Not only that you should be happy about all that comes your way, but also because living in a state of gratitude is an outward statement of certainty. This certainty then translates into a feeling of empowerment that drives you forward in the pursuit of any one of your specific desires.

6. Celebrate and joyfully experience each desire you bring into reality. Keep in mind the universal laws that transform the images you keep alive through expressing them and translating them into words and pictures that awaken you to a deeper level of intelligence, communication, and the coordination of collective minds. It is not necessary for you to be overly concerned with all the exacting details with how your desires will become realities. It is more important that you are consistent in your daily approach to taking some small action, as may become evident when your intuition kicks in or you are open to opportunities that may arise.

7. Probably the biggest unknown factor in this process is how to have the kind of mind shift that draws on our natural ability to engage creative thinking so we maintain confidence and vigilance in pursuit of our desires. This is another one of those things that will separate those who are highly successful at this process, and those who are not. It is the belief that all thought has an effect! Your ability to focus on positive thinking, words and actions will define your outcomes.
Take a moment and write out your immediate response to what kind of a mind shift you feel you would have to have in order to tap into the power of believing that all thought has an effect.

Life is created through thought, word and action. It is not life’s conditions that define us, but our response to each that determines our results. If things get a bit off track, perhaps we have another lesson to learn, or there is a better opportunity awaiting us. This kind of mental and emotional adjustment requires a bit of experience before we accept it as normal, but is one of the best life lessons we can learn. If we can be content to live in the present moment, to believe in the part it plays in our future desires, then our thoughts, words and actions will be more appropriately guided to create positive results.

8. Finally, take seriously the commitment to living the life you really desire. Once you can tap into this level of commitment… the rest is a piece of cake! Only you can take the steps necessary to identify your desires, to visualize them, to focus your daily efforts on them, and finally to experience the joy of successfully achieving them.
