"Affiliate" as an English word has two main functions as a verb or noun.

Affiliate as a verb can mean: to bring into close association or connection; to attach or unite on terms of fellowship; to associate oneself in action or interest.

Affiliate as a noun can represent: a branch organization; an associate; an auxiliary; a subsidiary; an organization with some agreements or ownership interests with a common purpose.

In Business What is an Affiliate?

An affiliate is a business or organization that may be partly owned by an organization, is in partnership or a wholly owned branch of another. Affiliates may be affiliates by collaboration or by contract.

In Business What is Affiliate Marketing?



Affiliate marketing is a marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts.

In affiliate marketing the product maker or distributor teams up with affiliates who market the product for them. When a product is sold or a lead gathered, the affiliate gets a fee, percentage or a commission.

Why should I participate in Affiliate Marketing?

Most businesses have a main product or service. Customers come in looking for product x and may also be interested in product y.

If you can offer product y without any additional expense or distraction to your main business, provide this additional convenience to your customer and earn a commission then maybe you should look for these types of affiliate programs.

For example: Most of my suppliers and customers are out of the country. I need to use the phones and travel at the lowest cost possible. I use the latest internet phones and save hundreds of dollars for my business. I use an ebook about internet phones that helps me obtain the best international calling options. When my collegues ask me how do you do that? I say "Buy the book".
