Class – The Elusive Quality in Today’s Society
Class – The Elusive Quality in Today’s Society
Class is an inner quality that does not relate to financial status or family background. It is the essential qualities of integrity, intelligence, sophistication, generosity of spirit, grace under pressure and ambassadorship skills.
The world’s most beautiful people, the actors and athletes have influence but not necessarily class. Class can be achieved… at least to a degree.
Class Through the Way You Dress: Class is not about wearing the latest fashion trends. It is about wearing what looks good on you based on your coloration in skin, hair, body size and type. Accessories should add interest and complete your look. Consider the ten point system. Women: add a point for your basic attire, a point for fancy trimmings, a hat, jewelry, belt, scarf, handbag, colored or textured stockings, shoes/boots. About ten points gives you the look. Less is boring, more can be over the top.
Men: add a point for the suit, two points if fabric is an obvious pattern. Add a point for a patterned or colored shirt, another point if the shirt has contrasting collar and cuffs. Add a point for cuff links, another point for a collar pin or tie tack. Add a point for fancy socks, and another for an eye catching buckle on your belt. Casual attire -just add up the points.
Signature Pieces: I personally use hats as my signature look. I have a hat for every suit and a few extra hats that simply needed to be in my collection. A hat draws attention and open doors to an upgrade on a flight, a better table in a restaurant and better customer service. Shoes are another great attention getting strategy. Beautiful, interesting shoes always make a statement.
How You Behave: grace under pressure, show respect, say please and thank you, avoid prying questions, add polish, posture and poise.
What You Say and How You Say It: Be articulate. Speak eloquently and avoid slang and filler words. Use words with two, three or four syllables. I am always shocked at the speaking patterns of people. So few can actually formulate a sentence. How can educated people world-wide use such poor sentence structure?
You are known by the places you frequent and the people you associate with. In your personal and professional quest for greatness you may outgrow people, friends and family. You are a living human treasure!

The four basic elements of class are how you look, how you behave, what you say and how you say it! What you do is the substance of class and the way you do it is the style of class.
