What Would You Do If You Were Brave?
What would you do if you were brave?
Wow, that question made me sit down with a cup of tea and really think about what I had done in my life. Initially, it took the wind out of my sails and then after remembering some of the brave things I had done in my life, my sails were full again with new brave things to do.
Brave: the dictionary says brave is having courage, not being afraid. Well, I was afraid when I did those brave things. My brave moments:
I left home at 15 years of age and moved to another city to start an apprenticeship as a floral designer. Outcome: I loved that career and worked as a designer for 20 years and taught a 120 hour Floral Design course for adults at the local college.
I bought my first house at 23 years of age and rented out rooms to students to pay the mortgage. I also went back to school then a got a college degree while working full time as a floral designer.
At 40 years old, I took up downhill skiing. I was terrified but it made speaking and coaching so much easier.
Another brave decision has been to accept work in Saudi Arabia and travel there alone, as a single woman. I have been to the Middle East 9 times and simply love it but I was terrified during the first visit. The first trip included a visit to King Abdulla's Palace and the opportunity to meet many people. Terror turned to fascination. Fascination turned to appreciation. Appreciation turned to acceptance. I am honored to meet and know the people of the Middle East and I anticipate many more trips to Saudi.
Acts of bravery included becoming an author. I have now published 9 books, 2 etiquette DVD's and 30 CD's. I realized it was time to leave a legacy and to reach more people with this essential information. My 9th book, the Modern Day princess Finishing School is in the White House, dedicated to the Obama daughters.
My next brave adventure is going to Nigeria. I had the pleasure of working with several wonderful Nigerians. Eme, the famous hat designer, Juliette Okeke, Modupe Marc-Dawodu, Mosunmoluwa Olawoye and Nseobong Isip. Every interaction with these elegant women has been wonderful and I am thrilled to be hosting the Modern Day Finishing School and the Image and Etiquette Certification Training in Abuja and Lagos in October.
I am looking forward to wearing several lovely Nigerian outfits that Nseobong has offered to have made for me and sporting some stunning hats designed by Eme.
So, I throw out the challenge to you. What would you do if you were brave? Life is short. Many people lead a life of quiet desperation. Do not let your song die inside of you. Be brave.
