Do You Settle?

How much is enough?

I would be the last person on earth to answer this question. I for one have never had enough. Not enough money or time, or friends, or opportunity. I seem to have an insatiable nature. Now don’t think that I’m unhappy because I may just be the happiest person on the planet. And don’t think that I am poor because that is definitely not the case. And I am sure we all have a full twenty-four hours in a day. And don’t think I am friendless because I have many great friends and many people don’t even have one great friend. And don’t think for a moment that I am not grateful because I am eternally grateful for all the opportunities I have been given even if I never receive another.

What I am saying is my soul has spent my whole life searching for something it has yet to realize. But I have always been optimistic I will find it. I have been told that all great people have a similar disposition. I hope you have one too!

Every great mind in the world’s history was honored with the same voracious appetite. If you desire great success then you too know of the craving that I speak. As a recovering alcoholic I always thought that the compulsion I felt was a symptom of my disease. Today I believe alcoholism is my souls need to fulfill its destiny of which alcohol stifled instead of appealed. Craving is a natural sense of need. When we can meet that need without the seven deadly sins; greed, lust, gluttony, sloth, wrath, envy and pride, we achieve our ultimate potential.

Whether we are passionately climbing the ladder of success vertically or traversing a horizontal path as I have, all itches must eventually get scratched. I know I won’t be an old man sitting in a nursing home somewhere sadly trying to wish my life back so I can do it over. I want to get to the end of the road never wondering if by chance I may have left an opportunity on the table. I don’t want to even think that I may have settled for much less than I was capable. My dad once told me, “Son, you can do it right or you can do it over,” and I have never forgotten these words of wisdom.

I have had many jobs in several career fields all of which I utilize today in my occupation. If I would have settled anywhere along the way I may have ended up with a respectable job, making respectable money, in a respectable little town in Somewhere U.S.A., only to feel victim to dishonor and disgrace. Today because of the way I have lived my life I get to end everyday with
something worth more than all the money, popularity or security in the world; I get to live with integrity. It is what my soul has actually craved all along. Remember...

Your Life is PERFECT!
