Resiliency

The other night I was watching the news when they showed a three legged dog. The story behind the three legs was a remarkable feat of determination. The dog had been tied up, left to die and had chewed his leg nearly completely off in order to survive. No quitting, no whining andno complaining. The goal was life and the resolve was noteworthy. He was reported by people willing to intervene andrescued by people who cared. His leg was amputated and the true marvel began.

Watching this dog caused me to realize my own inner strength and power. The resiliency of this dog was amazing. He wasn't angry or afraid. He wasn't sad for his lot in life. He was truly happy and was jumping around as if he had four legs. He was grateful for the chance to be alive and hopeful in finding a family that would truly love and take care of him. This dog was sent to us by God to show what love God has for us even though the people around us may have seemingly abandoned us. God is not the problem; God is the solution. Jesus plainly purported in Matthew 6:19-21,24, "You can not serve both God and Mammon."

I for one see God as grace; unconditional love. This means that no matter what happens in my life I am being protected by God. It doesn't mean that tragic things may not happen. It means that whatever happens is embedded with lessons and a blessing. The sooner I let go of my need to focus on the disasters of my life and refocus on the opportunities of my life the sooner I can move into the loving protection of God. I hope that if something ever should befall me as it did with that incredible dog, I would respond with the same loving demeanor. Until we meet again, remember...
