Are You Operating From IF or WHEN?
IF or WHEN? Two little words that mean so much. IF implies an uncertainty as to whether or not something will happen. WHEN implies it will definitely happen, it's just a matter of timing.
When we're operating in IF, we're not committed. We're still questioning, "can I reach my goal?" There's no forward movement and it may actually feel like we're going around in circles.
When we're operating in WHEN we've made the decision to reach our goal. It's just a matter of WHEN. We may not know exactly how we'll get what we want, but the fact of having made the decision removes any doubt that it will happen. The "how" will come much easier because all future decisions will be taking us in the direction of our goal.
It's what Wallace D. Wattles in "The Science of Getting Rich" refers to as the "certain way". Once you are certain, the universe will start to work with you.
The difference in the outcome of operating from these two positions can be huge. The implications for our future are critical.
We hear people saying, "I keep trying, but I can't reach my goal. Nothing works." These people are still unsure they can reach their goals. Making the decision that nothing will keep them from their goal, even if they have to try and fail many times, is what makes the difference between the winners and the competition.
The transition from IF to WHEN isn't hard, but it does require some contemplation and preparation. It seems to be like passing through a barrier. You're either on one side or the other. But once you pass through the barrier, you're able to make forward progress with much less effort.
Two of my clients just made the transition from IF to WHEN.
Brenda had a history as a human resources professional, most recently as Human Resources Director in a large corporation. She needed to see herself in a different way in order to make the decision to become an entrepreneur. She had been questioning IF she should make the commitment. By getting to know more about herself and her personal truths she passed through the barrier to commitment without even realizing she'd made a change. All her actions started to be focused on putting together a business that would use the best of what she had to offer. This tapped into an energy that motivated and activated her. She acknowledged she felt passionate about her new commitment.
The other client, Drake, had been an entrepreneur for 8 years before losing his business due to some major personal challenges. After 3 years and some serious soul searching, he realized he's ready to be an entrepreneur again. Although he has very limited capital, he's been able to pre-sell his prototype product to potential clients to the extent that he'll likely qualify for a bridge loan to start up on a small scale. He's now eagerly putting together a business plan. Having seen strong market support prior to commitment of dollars was, for him, the factor that moved him from IF to WHEN.
Consider YOUR goals. Are you committed to them? Do you think of them as IF or WHEN? It might be helpful to list each of your goals under either IF or WHEN.
Create a plan with a timeframe for those in the WHEN category. Providing a structure for your efforts not only saves energy, it adds validity to what you're trying to accomplish.
What's the missing piece or unanswered question for those in your IF category? How might you convert them to WHEN? It's also important to eliminate any that don't create a strong attraction. This allows more energy to be focused on those that are ready to move forward.
It's OK to have some goals that are undecided, but know that you won't make real progress toward them until they are converted to WHEN status.

Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest
- I guess the business bug has always been with me as I was brought up in a public house.
My parents were publicans, so were my grandparents, and later so were my brother and myself. I've also managed a café, co-owned a snack bar and also a second hand store, which is where I discovered computers and the Internet as someone came in one day and asked "can you sell this for me" referring to his computer.
After that I learned how to build one from scratch, install the Operating System and then went online to find out how everything worked and how to maintain computers properly.
All the time I was doing this there was a thought at the back of my mind telling me that I could make a living on the Internet and eventually I made up my mind to do just that.

Securing Financing
- This is a short article that a friend of mine put together. He's a business banker and it seems that he would be the right person to put the info together. He compiled it for inclusion in a book about opening a pizza shop. There could be some useful info here -
In order for a bank to even consider financing for a business loan such as a pizza restaurant, the first step is to have good personal credit. If you have previous credit issues that have lowered your credit scores, make sure you are prepared to either hear, “No”, or “Please explain this (these) credit marks.” If you have not demonstrated the ability to manage your own personal finances then most likely you will not have the opportunity to manage the financing from a bank for a business. When you make the initial contact with a bank, ask to speak to a commercial loan officer.
Other types of loan officers include consumer (think car loans) and mortgage (think home purchases and home equity loans). The commercial loan officer will be able to provide a list of things you will need to give him/her in order to consider the restaurant financing. Information required for a new business most likely will include the following:
Personal financial statement (Assets – Liabilities = Net Worth)
Personal tax returns (two years)
Business Plan
If leasing property, copy of the lease agreement
If purchasing property, copy of the sales contract
Personal History / Resume (may not be required but is very
helpful)
If an existing business, add the following to the list above:
Business tax returns (two years)
Copy of State Corporation Commission Certificate
Copy of Federal Tax Identification Number or Employer
Identification Number (EIN)
Copy of Articles of Incorporation (if corporation)
Copy of Operating Agreement (if partnership)
One common mistake a new business owner often makes with regard to financing is that one loan will cover all the financing needs. This is typically not the case and can lead to cash flow problems that could result in default on the loan, which is not what the lender or borrower want. In most cases, either two or sometimes three separate loans would be appropriate. For instance, if one is purchasing real estate then a long-term mortgage loan would be appropriate to finance that purchase.
However, the pizza restaurant may need to purchase equipment and have cash available monthly to meet payroll and purchase rolling inventory.
An equipment loan could take the form of a five or seven year loan with a fixed monthly payment much like a car loan. A line of credit, on which one would pay interest monthly on the outstanding balance, may be prudent for short-term cash flow purposes. All three should be addressed in the business plan and discussed with the commercial loan officer.

Getting Started In Your New Internet Business
- I always think it’s fun and exciting to start a new Internet business. I know for me that I would do something that I’m interested and passionate about. Otherwise the new venture doesn’t last for long. As it’s just as important to have passion, motivation and interest, there are a few areas that help me succeed in business.
Promoting Your Internet Business
I would call this the “show me the money” part of the business. Without money or income, there is no business. Therefore it’s important to promote your business and turn your promotional activities into sales. At every opportunity, try to promote your business through passive means: e.g. through your stationary, letterheads, emails, brochures and any other promotional material you may use. Even if it’s just an article you write for a directory, remember to put your website address at the bottom of it. In the past, I made stickers of my logo that I could easily stick on my products. Also I made sure that every email I sent out to a customer had a company logo in it. This all helps with creating the brand for the business.
It’s crucial to develop a marketing plan that will not only sell your products, but also your brand. Here are some other articles I recommend to read to help you promote your Internet business:

Operating Your Business
This is the “lifeblood” of the business and I’m amazed at the amount of businesses that still operate without having good systems in place. An electrician I use from time to time asked me how I maintain my book work and said he doesn’t know how to do it. I was shocked because I’d known him to be trading for over 2 years and he probably doesn’t know how much money is being made in his business or let alone lost. What I am saying is to not be like my Electrician friend and make sure you buy an accounting software to track all your accounts and paperwork. I would suggest hiring a book keeper because it will save you the hassle and time of doing it all yourself. Some good software packages out there that are under $500 like MYOB Accounting and QuickBooks will be more than sufficient when you start out.
Another area that most people forget or get caught out on are getting the appropriate insurances for your business. The most common are public liability insurance, fire, burglary, vehicle and workers compensation insurance. All these can be easily found via a quick search on Google. I would recommend ensuring both public liability and fire insurances are in place before even running your business.
Keeping Pace And Staying Up To Date
This may sound all too overwhelming when you have to promote, operate your business and keep up to date with your industry. Believe me it’s not as hard as it sounds. Take the first step and join a trade association or your local Chamber of Commerce. You will find it both informative and beneficial to your business. To know what is happening in your area and within your industry can help you make better decisions for promoting your product or service. Whether it may be time to change a product line or add more services to your business, you will be keeping up with the industry and making sure you are not missing out on opportunities. Also it’s a great way to network and promote within your trade associations and Chamber of Commerce. Simply write an article to contribute and it can be used as great public relations (P.R) for your business.
Also I emphasise to have a well prepared business plan created before starting your business, because this will be your starting point. A business plan is useful for so many areas for your business from sourcing finance to implementing a growth strategy for the next 5 years. Once it’s written down, it will become a living breathing document that you can update and review over time. I’ve just finished preparing my business plan for this business which took nearly 3 weeks to complete but I can tell you that it is well worth the time and effort to do. Learn how to put your own business plan together and I can guarantee you that you’ll get finance and negotiate business deals much easier.
The Future Of Your Internet Business
Starting your Internet Business is rewarding and if you look into those areas I have mentioned, then you will have a good foundation to running a successful Internet Business. Take action today and know that you deserve to live your dream.
