Smaller is Better ... Finding Your Niche

“Do what you love, the money will follow…”. While this is perhaps it’s cliché, it is also true. The niche movement has proven to be an effective way to structure your business and is an effective way to master you subject area and effective market your services.

Be thoughtful when determining which niche to invest your time. Make sure to consider client groups for which you have the most interest, concern and connection when choosing your niche.
When you are thoughtful about choosing your niche market, you will likely become emotionally invested in providing greater value to your customers – leading to more authentic connections.
While is it certainly possible to *specialize* is more than one niche, I highly encourage you to limit yourself to no more three.

An effective UpwardAction® plan of action is to … start with one niche, become the go to resource in the niche, then expand.

If you are having trouble deciding on a niche for your financial services or insurance business, here are a few questions to get you started!

UpwardAction® Success Work
1. Who are your current favorite customers?
2. Conversely, who do you dread calling? What line of business causes your angst?
3. Which seminars, workshops, and conventions have you enjoyed attending?
4. What business books have you enjoyed the most? Which of your clients are also reading your favorite book? In which industry do they work?
5. How can you combine your hobbies with your work?

Use your answers to these 5 questions to create a list of 3 to 5 possible niche markets. Now, invest time to thoughtfully consider where you have the most interest and deepest connection.

Re: Where is the best place to find a web developer? Re: Where is the best place to find a web developer? - That's a really tough one. Finding a business partner is like finding a wife - it takes a lot of trust to get the right one. I would try to hang out at tech-related startup events and see if you hit it off with anybody. Good luck!
Re: Hello from Missouri Re: Hello from Missouri - I have been unsuccessfull thus far finding an online resource of people who operate in the market I'm serving. Finding those people are a big part of why I posted here, but I'm not certain this is the right area either. The search continues...
Re: Before you spend all your money on a prototype Re: Before you spend all your money on a prototype - Its hard to pick out a favourite part. But one thing I really LOVE is the whole idea that if we could see what lies ahead for us, it would help us all stay focused and positive. While we dont often get the chance to see into the future, we can try harder to remember that we do create our own realities. I also love the Disney quote at the and it reminds me of Finding Nemo, just keep swimming, just keep swimming... J
Re: Backlink Partnerships Re: Backlink Partnerships - Tyrone gives good advice about outsourcing. Thanks for reminding us about his Philippines outsourcing tip. Finding someone who can deliver what you want - and more - can be a matter of trial and error. But once you find that person or team, keep them busy! Don't give up the search just because the first one or two underperformed or failed to perform at all. Remember, every successful entrepreneur gets there with the help of others. You just have to go out and find 'em!
