Building A Strong Rapport with Your Employees
We are going to talk about how to gain rapport with your employee. Rapport is something that business owners must work at to get the best results. What is rapport? : The ability to enter someone else’s world, to make that person feel that you understand him/her and that you have a common bond.
So, how can you gain rapport with your employee? What must take place in order for your employee to trust you, and how do you get into his/her world? Many business owners face a challenge relating to their employee.
When business owners tell me that it’s hard to relate, my first reaction is that they haven’t found ways to enter their employee’s world.
How do you create rapport with your employee? We do it by discovering things in common. We call this process, mirroring or matching.
What can you match about your employee? Please write down your answers.
1.
2.
3.
However, studies have shown that only 7% of what is communicated between people is transmitted through words, 38% comes though from the tone of voice and 55% of communication, the largest part, is a result of physiology or body language.
What if you use all three together? While the words are working on the person’s conscious mind, the tonality and physiology are working on the unconscious. That’s when the brain is thinking. “ Hey my parents are thinking like me (he/she must be ok”) and because it’s unconscious, it’s even more effective. You’re not aware of anything but the bond that has been formed with your teenager.
KEY POINTS
· All the skills you learn in this article are really ways to achieve greater rapport with people (including yourself)
· When people are like each other, they tend to like each other.
· What if you could mirror everything about people? People then feel that they’ve found a soul mate.
· There are two keys to mirroring---- keen observation and personal flexibility.
· Remember, rapport doesn’t mean you’re smiling. Rapport means responsiveness.
· We are always communicating and interacting. Rapport is simply doing both in the most effective ways possible--- all you need to do is learn how to enter your teen’s world.
Thanks so much for your commitment to this first mini-series. If you would like more information about gaining rapport and connecting with your teen, please order the book Connecting With Your Teen, which has more information along with case studies.
Again thanks for the opportunity and your quest to bond with your teenager.
See you at the top!
