The Altitude of your Attitude
Are you high on life? Do you think, speak and practice positive things. Or have you picked up some negative energy along the way?
It’s funny how many of us think that we are positive people. But think for a minute about the last thing that you said. Was it something positive and uplifting – or was it a minor complaint about something?
Attitudes rub off. That is why it is important for us to have good attitudes and to hang around with those who are positive people. Not only is it nicer to listen to positive things, it also affects our performance!
I have often spoken of manifestation of our thoughts and how we subconsciously bring into being that which we think. Just as positive thoughts produce good results – so do our negative thoughts and words reinforce and produce negative actions and results.
I was recently being transported in a taxi during severe weather. The driver spoke non-stop about the driving conditions, and her concern about safety and the possibility of an accident. She said over and over- there is no way to see ahead. After saying this several times, she had me feeling very nervous, and concerned that I would never reach my destination. Only minutes before however, I had just disembarked from an airplane that was able to land with the same limited visibility, at 480 km per hour. Before landing the pilot reassured us that although visibility was limited- that he was sure would see the runway and affect a safe landing. I did not even consider being nervous on the airplane traveling at great speed, but I had sweaty palms just thinking of driving 10 km per hour after listening to the fear and negativity of the taxi driver. Finally I asked the driver to let me out at a car rental location- rented a vehicle and drove myself safely and quickly to my destination.
During my drive, I spoke positive things out loud. I said “this storm isn’t so bad” and “I am so thankful that I have the courage and skill to drive in the snow safely”. It may sound corny to you, but within five minutes of beginning my journey- I was relaxed – not afraid of the weather- and composed so that I could think clearly and navigate the roads safely. I had talked myself into a safe, positive and relaxed journey. It was all in how I thought and the words I spoke. The weather had not changed- the way I thought had. And it affected everything I did.
This principle can be applied to business too. Speaking successful results into being is as easy as repeating a positive mantra or just calling to action positive things. “I put in a great proposal- I will get the contract”, instead of “well I probably won’t get the contract anyway” is one good example. In times of struggle- compliment yourself on what you did right. “That sure was a tough presentation- but I learned a lot, and I know someone will be interested in what I have to offer”.
I used to joke that it was a good day if I woke up and there was not a chalk line around my body – but it sure put life into perspective - and it was all uphill from there.
Speaking positive things will attract positive people. No one wants to be around the grim reaper or the bearer or predictor of bad news. Think about it- when Peter Pan wanted to teach Wendy how to fly- he told her to think happy thoughts.
If you want to soar like and eagle- succeed at all you do- you must speak positively and predict your success. You will attract successful positive people to help you do it by first being positive yourself!
