Avoid Missed Sales by Developing Better Communication Skills
You can spend a fortune on salon and spa marketing however your beauty business can vastly increase the average service or retail sale if you train your team to "Create sales opportunities" by asking questions listening to the responses then providing the answer or solution. The problem lies in the fact in this industry there are sadly often more "missed sales opportunities". All the salon advertising and salon promotions in the world will not make up for missed sales opportunities.
The missed sales opportunity is typically seen with the under-serviced customer the one who only ever receives the salon treatment she has book for. For example the customer has booked for a facial and although the therapist observes the skin would benefit from a more advanced treatment she does not recommend her client has the upgraded treatment. In this instance the therapist could have created a sales opportunity and also delivered a superior treatment to the client. In addition advanced treatments open up more retail opportunities.
It's very unfortunate since the advent of "spa" many therapists have taken the view they must not talk to the client - after all isn't she it here to relax. While this is true to some extend there is still the right time to communicate and the right time to let the customer relax in peace and quite. However the fact remains most clients want to receive the best possible treatment designed to deliver the best results.
The trouble is if the therapist does not communicate with her client she is not in the position to build a relationship. The most valuable skill any therapist can have is the ability to build a strong customer relationship with her clients. So it is your responsibility as salon / spa management to train your team in good communication skills.

niche forum categories
- I think Kevin just touched on the point that I was going make... and that is developing 'categories' that stick. Sales and Marketing may be too broad for example. However I can almost guarantee you that you would see many more sign-ups if you tailored a category to 'internet marketing' for newbies. I've seen this work on other forums, however, [i:1i903wkn]it can get a little frantic[/i:1i903wkn]...
Fine tuning the categories, or expanding the scope should be effective. I think a lot of IM folks are surfing right on by because they're not finding what they're looking for here...
Just a few thoughts:
Better Blogging
Developing Info Products
Internet Marketing
Presentation Skills
More How to's
Another point is... a lot of people don't know that they can benefit from participating in forums. The signature links to their site - if they have one - can / should be motivation enough to get more involved. The more internet savvy members that have signatures seem to stick around more... Don't you think?
Business Coaching Internship Review
- I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto.
RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data.
Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds!
Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well.
The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though.
It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take.
The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you.
Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
Online Sales and Marketing vs Traditional
- Hi Evan,
I am noticing that many of the posts in the Sales/Marketing section deal with online marketing, SEM and and SEO and Affiliates. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to separate that section into two; 1) Online Sales and Marketing; 2) Traditional Sales and Marketing
Re-introduction
- Hello,
Some of you know me and some of you don't. I've been gone for about 2 months, had some pretty serious health issues pop up.. but i'm stubborn so here i am back again. Thought i'd do a re-introduction.
I'm Jen. I own/run my own graphic design firm. I also do business coaching on the side.
How's everyone? Good too see that this forum has been growing while i've been away. Missed you all! Hope you'll all forgive me for being away.
