Salon Spa Owners Systemize Operations & Save Big Time
In these times of environmental awareness I think every salon or spa owner should consider every possible way to reduce wastage, protect precious resources and save money at the same time.
Ways to reduce costs
There are two parts to reduce operating costs the first is to make your salon or spa team cost conscious and resource wise, some of the ways this can be done are:
- Use only the amount of supplies necessary to perform the treatment correctly, efficiently and expertly - save product wastage
- Make sure team members know how to use all equipment and products correctly - saves time and gives better results
- Train all Salon Spa team members how to handle equipment with care and to keep it clean and in perfect working order - save on repair and down-time bills
- Switch off any unnecessary lights - save energy bills
- Switch off equipment / machines when not in use - save energy and prevent fires
- Train your team to work faster while still being precise and offering great service - save on wages
The second part in reducing costs is to become a cost conscious and resource wise owner / manager. Look towards tightening up on key areas in the business. Check your over-heads, are there any areas you can make savings. Below are listed some of the areas where big saving can be found (if you really look hard you will find many more, its worth looking into):
- Improve the workplace layout - this often will reduce time wastage and streamline services
- Use salon and spa product suppliers/vendors discount buy-in deals effectively - make sure you aware of all deals before placing an order
- Telephone costs - use ‘toll-free' - landlines and not mobiles whenever possible - SMS reminder / confirmation calls - check out the best priced carriers
- Delivery costs - small orders often incur delivery charges - keep a good control of your inventory and you shouldn't run low on stock and need to do small emergency orders
As I mentioned earlier "profits are the key to any successful salon or spa" and making money is what every salon owner wants. It therefore goes without saying that your pricing and cost-cutting strategies need to fit with your overall financial objectives and to be part of your marketing and business plan. So it's worth the time and effort to get this right it could be the very key to business success.
