WOW Them With Your Speech

As an entrepreneur you are consistently asked to take to the podium and energize the team or excite the media with your future plans. This means you must be prepared to speak at a moments notice and learn the techniques required to deliver WOW.

First, you must know your audience. What do they respond to? What are they thinking? Your employees have a different purpose than the media and your job is to craft your speech to be all about them. In other words, "XYZ's 3rd quarter profits hit an all time high due to your creativity and hard work. You, are why XYZ is beating the competition." When your words are aboutwhat your audience cares about they will be remembered.

Second, show your personality when you speak. Use gestures and body language and, most importantly, pauses to make your points stand out. A well positioned pause adds drama to a speech and allows the audience to digest what has been said. Too often speakers are afraid of silence as if taking a breath while speaking will lose the attention span of the audience. The opposite is true. You must also show your humor and humanity in your speeches. Let your audience get to know you in a special way. A well crafted and practiced speech still requires the purposeful ad libs as it is being given. This gives your speech life.

Finally, when standing on that stage or at that podium think big - think super star - think bold and you will be bold. Audiences want a WOW speech and hope you will deliver one. Inform, persuade and entertain them and they will remember you long after they have forgotten what you said.
