How did you survive Valentine's Day?
How did you survive Valentine's Day?
I not only gave birth and life to an awesome boy, but also a wonderful gift to myself that could not be topped with any asset you could by for money whatsoever. (Very much to the relief of my husband, I can assure you!)
Of course not everybody is as lucky as me (and my husband) and expectations are high for every 14th of February. How do you decide on what to present?
Will a bunch of roses do? Does it have to be the sailing trip he/she mentioned for weeks now? What about some movie tickets including a baby sitter? A nice dinner? A shopping tour (retail therapy, as one of my clients witty calls it)? A night at the beach? A massage - and if so, from yourself or a professional?
Valentine's Day is a serious business where you can make a day or put yourself in danger to be perceived as being totally non-sensitive or unromantic.
How can you be sure to do the right thing? You can't, unless you know your partner's "love language".
The five languages (five "T") determine how you "express heartfelt commitment to your mate"*. They are:
* Words of Affirmation (talking)
* Quality Time (time)
* Receiving Gifts (token)
* Acts of Service (things)
* Physical Touch (touch)
When you start dating someone, you don't know what works. So you simply try everything, hoping that one thing will grab the attention of your prospective. Once you found out what was delighting him or her, once you found the other's love language, it will be repeated until it leads to the desired result.
Unfortunately once you have what you want (like becoming a couple), you get back to your natural love language, which could be totally different and that's when trouble starts.
So make sure for next Valentine's Day, next Birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas or any other anniversary you will fulfil your partner's love language. It will secure not only one day of harmony, it could be the foundation to discover each other again and the beginning of a relationship based on true appreciation.

To me personally it is the birthday of my second son and since he was born, all "typical" expectations I would have had on Valentine's Day have disappeared completely.
I not only gave birth and life to an awesome boy, but also a wonderful gift to myself that could not be topped with any asset you could by for money whatsoever. (Very much to the relief of my husband, I can assure you!)
