Multiply Your Speaking and Consulting Income with Content

One of the best ways to multiply your earnings from speaking engagements is to fill the table in the back of the room with books, workbooks, manuals, DVDs, CDs, and other information products. Because after exciting the audience with your speech, many people will want more (and be willing to pay hundreds of dollars for it). So how can you create a catalog of information products fast?

Maybe you have a book or a few DVDs—that’s a great start. But you can use those materials over and over again in different ways to generate more attention and income to your speaking career. Regardless of what you’re getting paid to speak, you can make six figures at every event. Consider the following tips.

1. Use Content to Market Yourself
Sure, you can place ads and use publicity opportunities to get additional speaking engagements and business. But creating content is one of the best ways to make yourself known. In your marketing plan, you should include writing articles and special reports, as well as hosting free and paid teleseminars and events for your clients. These are simple ways to generate a large body of content fast.

2. Repurpose Everything
If you’re actively marketing your business and speaking services, then you should be generating tons of content that can be reworked or reformatted to create multiple valuable products. For example, every teleseminar or speech you deliver can be recorded and used later as a CD. That CD can be used as a lead-generating giveaway or packaged with other CDs or sold on its own. Then you can transcribe and edit that recording and use it as a special report or break it up into several articles or combine it with other reports to compile a book. The opportunities are endless!

3. Write a Book—But Don’t Stop There
Authoring a book is one of your most powerful marketing weapons. So if you haven’t already, start looking at your articles and reports to see how you can repackage these into a book. You may need to write a few chapters to fill it out and make it more powerful, but using your existing body of content gives you a head start. So write that book! (Then break up all the chapters later and repurpose those too!)

Writing Your Body of Work
Creating and repackaging content can multiply the income you earn at every speaking engagement and consultation you do. Even if you speak for free, you can walk away with a pocket full of checks from people who loved what you had to say and wanted more. But you have to have the content—the books, articles, CDs, and workbooks—to take advantage of this opportunity. Use these tips to start today!

CMS CMS - Speaking of Content Management Systems, which one are you going with? I've stubbornly held off going to a CMS, but each time I change something on my pages, such as the Navbar, I have to go back through everyone and cut and paste and it does get time consuming. BUt I like the freedom to alter a single pages layout if I need to to accomodate a certain type of article...
Re: Meta Tags Re: Meta Tags -
I'm just curious what you all think -- - How important do you think meta tags are? If the content is keyword optimized and they are being used correctly (as per Google's current instructions) how important are meta tags?? Chris[/quote:tzc1bohg] Metatags were very important 10 years ago. Now, search engines are smarter... There are 2 very important things on your page: 1/ Page title: make sure to place some keywords in your title (avoid title like "welcome to my website, great information resource". You are wasting prime keyword real estate. 2/ Content. Content. Content. Content. Content. Oh, did I mention content?? Your content as to mention your main keywords several times. 3/ <h> and <b> tags are very important too. They tell search engines you emphasize these keywords.
Re: Best looking social networking site? Re: Best looking social networking site? - Hi Kevin [quote:3h76yt08]With so many social networking sites to pick and choose from, what influences your decision to join a particilar site? Is it just your friends, the content, people using it or looks??[/quote:3h76yt08] For me, the most essential criteria in selecting a Social Networking Site is its Content followed closely by popularity- in terms of daily visitors. Then comes the Content followed by the Friends and looks. Most of do social networking to attract traffic to their website(s) and as such the Content and Popularity of the site are important. btw, the list doesn't have digg or netscape or del.is.us which are the top social media sites.
Re: What are your success criteria? Re: What are your success criteria? -
Out of curiousity, what has to be present for you to know that your business is a success? The top three things for me are: 1. Maintaining a 6 figure income year in and year out. 2. Creating and promoting my own products. 3. Income not solely dependent upon my personal effort. How about yours?[/quote:1igrdgib] I would have to say mine were: 1. Monthly Residual Income that exceeds all expenses by 110% 2. Free time to create and promote my own products (relies on #1) 3. 5% of all revenues generated by my team going to feed starving kids Now that is "feel good work".
Ryerson or McMaster? Ryerson or McMaster? - It's true McMaster probably does have a better reputation than Ryerson but after you graduate I don't think when you go to an interview the deciding factor will ever be the university you went to. At least that was true in my case. I went to Ryerson and did their Technology/Business Program. I was employed the very next day after graduation not because of my grades (though that helps during co-op) or the fact that I went to Ryerson but because of what I brought to the table in terms of experience (part-time jobs I held while in school), social skills (verbal and written) and my goals. Since 2003 I've worked in Marketing, Content Management and Consulting. The Marketing program at Ryerson has some good classes and topics within it but entreprenuer on your resume if you plan on getting a job after graduation is going to be a tough one. BUT you can get around it by focusing on the classes you've taken and how you can apply them to any business. I believe true Entreprenuership can't be learnt in a classroom by a Professor who's never been an entreprenuer (not saying the profs at Ryerson were never an entrepreneurs - some of mine were). It has to be learnt in the field. If your move to Ryerson means you will be out of school faster, can take a 3 month vacation (which I missed out on but am planning for next summer) and then get a job or start your own thing then it sounds like a good deal to me BUT you need to decide.
