In the past, companies would send press releases to journalists, hoping that they might mention them in their publications. However, in today's internet savvy world, you don't need to wait around 'hoping' that your press release gets noticed. Written and submitted correctly, press releases can work to boost the visibility of your website, bypass the media and be delivered straight to your target audience, and receive mention in old-world and new-world media.

Use Optimize for Search Engines When Publishing Press Releases Online

With free and inexpensive press release submission services, companies can now publish their own press releases online rather than hoping the media will publish them. Publishing your press release online is just the first step in the equation. In order to ensure that your press release gets the most visibility possible, you'll want to optimize your press release for your target keywords.

To optimize a press release for your keywords, use one or two of your most important keywords in the title and summary, and throughout your press release. This way, if people are searching for your keywords in search engines, they are more likely to come across your press release. It's also a good idea to optimize your image file names with your keywords as well. Oftentimes, especially with products, people browse images on search engines to find what they are looking for. Instead of titling the image of your red dog collar 'RDC-110,' use a keyword rich file name like 'red-dog-collar.'

Another very important way to optimize your press release is to use keyword rich anchor text to point back to your site. Having links to your site embedded in your target keywords is an essential part of search engine optimization. By publishing press releases online that contain keyword rich anchor text, you help your website rank higher in the search engines for those keywords.

Send the Press Release to 'New Media' and 'Old Media' Publishers

Instead of just waiting for people to find your press release online, send it to targeted new media and old media publishers that already have an established readership of your target audience! 'New media' publishers include non-competing but related website owners and bloggers that can mention your news to their readers. 'Old media' publishers include journalists and editors of magazines, trade journals, and newspapers.

Another powerful way to get your press release in front of your target audience is to leverage social media sites like Twitter, StumbleUpon, and Delicious.
