Gratitude

If you observe your emotions quite carefully, you may notice that emotions shift and change like the weather. In fact, emotions are the weather patterns of the body, and no more under our conscious command than the weather outside us. We cannot will ourselves to feel happy or loving or grateful on demand; yet these and other feelings visit us. No doubt, cultivating an "attitude of gratitude" is a good thing. But such an attitude goes beyond trying to feel grateful (we can't will ourselves to feel gratitude or any other emotion) but rather, to actively count our blessings, and pay attention to the gift of this day, this moment, this life.

I may not actually feel grateful when someone gives me a gift; but I can certainly say "Thank you!" and offer a smile and even a hug in return. Because I have more control over such actions than I do over emotions.

So do not trouble yourself whether you feel grateful or loving or kind or helpful; only focus on behaving that way - and you will become grateful!

Re: what brings tears to Your eyes ???? - Hi Barry Being able to make a difference in a life, whether it is a human life or an animals life I think gives one a wonderful feeling of gratitude. Gratitude of being in a position to help and that what you do is actually going to make a difference is definitely enough to bring tears to your eyes. MichelleJ
