There are two important paradigms I want you to keep in mind about paper to keep it in proper perspective.

First is paper is to business what fat is to a diet. It's needed to be healthy, but we tend to go way overboard in our consumption or use of it.
Second paradigm is that paper is money. Every copy you make, every computer report you print cost money--from printing costs to storage and to retrieval.

Start a war on paper with these 13 tactics. Look at reducing paperwork and how much you store as a challenge to gain not only more time but to increase your company's profits as well



Use the following tactics to help you:

Reduce the fear that you have to protect yourself by putting everything in writing.
Get in the habit of throwing paper away (recycle).
When in doubt throw it out.
Create a special safety net drawer in a file cabinet for temporarily holding papers you would like to throw away but are still afraid to.
Put only the bare necessities in writing.
Answer memos on the originating memo.
Copy only what you need at the copy machine.
Use the KISS Principle (Keep It Short & Simple) toward creating computer reports.
Reduce your filing.
Go through your files several times a year.
Handle paper only once if possible.
Dot your paper corners until you finally take action.
Use the telephone or e-mail instead of writing a formal memo.

Proper Planning required - Paper business has its own importance. But it has to be done in the right way. You have to plan in a proper way. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea. You have to check your priority.
Recycling Papers - Paper business sounds good. But I think, recycled papers are better since we need to preserve nature and trees are going to be scarce if we just continuously cut them.

Re: How to be green? - Hi Evan It’s a great topic especially when it comes to going green and saving our planet. We all have a role to play and we are happy about the fact that we are into it. We have recently made our workplace greener and in the process the following changes have been implemented – 1. We provide paper invoices only if customers ask for them. Otherwise, all our invoicing is done electronically (a PDF via e-mail). 2. We have replaced the Paper Cups at our Cafeteria with Mugs for not only our in-house requirements but also for our clients. 3. We have also made it a Company policy to use only eco-friendly electronic appliances and that includes bulbs, air conditioners. 4. We are in the process of putting it into the Policy that the Employees will have to take to other transportation media – other than their personal vehicles – on at least a day per week to office.
