Is Your Communication System Working For You And Your Business?

I get asked this question frequently, because so many who are well into their business know they need some help to get to the next level but are finding kinks and blockages in communications with their team, between team members and with clients. No matter what the size of your business, it can’t function effectively without efficient communications systems. This is especially true for businesses that are operating nationally or internationally – and even if you are a team of only two.

I can liken this to couples or family communications. Counselors will tell you the number one couples’ problem that brings them to counseling is communications.

Businesses have the added challenge of people who may not know each other that well, distance, responsibilities, differing communication styles and more.

Most businesses, small, large or in between, can easily list examples of where communications systems (or lack of them) have caused problems.

It could be a virtual assistant who doesn’t understand the assignment and sends out a message that isn’t what you intended. It could be the financial team that doesn’t know your long term plans for the business so makes decisions that head you in a direction you don’t want to go.

Maybe it’s that team member who forgot to tell you something important so you got blindsided and lost a client. Or perhaps a client request was handled in a way you don’t see as the philosophy of your business.

The downsides of lacking important communications systems are clear: lack of efficiency, lack of cooperation, loss of potential clients, stress and bottom line impact.

Here are some of the key components of an effective communication system:

Evaluation and understanding of your current systems be they established or ad hoc, is the first step toward managing your business communications systems.

After graduating cum laude in university and earning my CPA and MBA fifteen years ago, I became employed by a big five accounting firm. Then only two years later, I accepted a position in a multi-level international company, where I was hired to audit and put policies and procedures into place to streamline the business.
It was a pretty intense job and I was pretty intense about it. But it got me thinking...
Both before and after my move to North America seven years ago, I began reading and learning more about how our thoughts and the way we look at our circumstances can change our circumstances.
I began the study of how to use our minds in a positive and dynamic way to reach our goals.

A Blended Approach
I like to call myself a blend between serious business acumen and open-minded joy. With a core value of freedom and a fifteen year history of advising already successful business owners how to step up to the next level, I have learned that taking our business seriously and enjoying our work and life are not mutually exclusive.

Qualifications and Expertise
I have worked, learned from and assisted many prosperous and successful business owners around the world and have the experience and qualifications to help you! My strengths are based on my professional history.

Business Coaching Internship Review Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? Re: What is Your Favorite Thing About Owning A Business? - [quote="freddyb45":1t3lpfi8]For me it's the fact that all the time and effort you put in is worth a lot more, due to it making you "business" more profitable. Working for yourself is also a positive, although employing people you can trust is quite different.[/quote:1t3lpfi8] I like this idea. Working for yourself means you are investing in your own future, not someone else's, although there is value in working for someone else first to gain experience and confidence. Working for yourself does not automatically mean success, fame and fortune. For most entrepreneurs, it takes much work and dedication to get to the point of financial success and comfort - sometimes years. But the benefit is, again, you know you are investing in yourself and building equity for your own future. GT :-]

The book is: The System: A Story of Intrigue and Market Domination Terry Waghorn Perseus Piblishing 2002 Jacket description: In a world where competitive advantage is temporary at best - and illusory at worst - there is nothing more important to the business enterprise than creating a robust strategy and executing it with Steve. In The System, Terry WAghorn illustrates this universal theme through an action-packed adventure.
