A week ago I asked a very vibrant and active woman what aspect of
coaching she would want to utilize if she could work on anything in her
business and /or her life.
Her response astounded me. She said,
after a thoughtful pause, that she would want help on building up her
self-esteem. I said, "Really, why do you think you have low self
esteem?" Then, I saw the tears falling down her cheeks. I knew that I
had definitely reached her very core.
This discussion has haunted
me all week, and as I pondered these thoughts I realized that this
wonderful person was carrying around an incredible burden that I believe
is shared by many, many men and women. As a business coach I know that a
high level of self esteem is critical to succeed in business and life.
It won't
be easy. This process requires that you go deep within your personal
core to determine what's impacting your self esteem. Once you do, the
results can change your future, your life and the lives of those you
touch. Ready? Here goes:
1. Look deep within yourself to determine
what drives you and your self worth. Is it the opinion of other people?
Personal achievement? Keep digging until you determine what it is that
drives you. Keep asking yourself why you are suffering from low self
esteem. Are you letting what someone else has said or done influence
what you think about yourself? If this is true, stop it right now!
Know
that you and only you are responsible for your life. You get to decide
what makes you happy, what gives you energy and what drives your
success. Make an agreement with yourself to take full responsibility for
yourself, today!
Having great self esteem is as essential as
food, shelter and water. You must pay attention to this basic need, now!
No wavering. Measure your self esteem daily and take whatever measures
necessary to keep your self esteem level high.
2. Begin a
Gratitude, Intentions and Delegations Journal (GID). In it you will
write your Gratitude's, Intentions and Delegations for each day.
Begin
by writing what you are Grateful for; make sure you identify one or
more things every day. It could be your health, your children, your job,
we all have something every day to appreciate and be grateful for.
Write
your Intentions. What do you plan to accomplish each day? Make your
intentions reasonable and achievable. Make a list of no more than 3-6
activities or tasks that will more you forward in achieving your
immediate or life goals.
Then get to putting out your Delegations.
When you put out your delegations to your God, the Universe or whatever
Higher Power you recognize, you are setting the most powerful stage for
success. Remember that we are all human beings; we need the support of
our High Power for many things. Delegate your wants and let them go,
then, be ready to be amazed!
It is right, fitting and freeing.
Once you have completed this exercise each day, breathe in the wonderful
feeling of strength and empowerment that goes along with this daily
exercise.
3. Look at your surroundings, your personal space. Make
it yours. Organize it to fit the style and comfort of the person you
want to be. Is it bright? soft? Clean and uncluttered?
Don't let
clutter be a barrier to your support system to achieve great self
esteem. Clutter saps energy and creativity as well as the ability to be a
positive highly effective person. Make your space reflect the greatness
of you, the incredible individual you are meant to be.
Mary Kay
once said that "God didn't have time to make a nobody, only a
somebody".... You are someone very import and special. Begin by being
that special person to yourself; you will be surprised at your healthy
dynamic self- esteem explosion.
