From Selling to Serving to BEing

When I received my 'calling' as a Spiritual Life Coach, I spent a lot of time and energy giving my services freely because I bought into the belief that spirituality and money are mutually exclusive.
It never occurred to me to 'sell' my services. 'Selling,' for me was about manipulating people into giving up their hard-earned cash for something they didn't want and didn't need. Besides, 'selling' myself made me feel like I had to convince people that I had some value. Let's face it; even I don't always believe I have value!

So I focused on 'serving' others. After all, serving is more spiritually/politically correct. I told myself that spiritual concerns, such as the ability to connect with our spirit, are not things meant to be 'FOR SALE.' But, the Universe in its infinite wisdom knew better and kept sending me evidence that my beliefs were limited.

For example, people kept insisting on paying me! In fact, they seemed quite pleased with themselves for even thinking of paying me. One quite persistent woman explained, when I protested, "you have helped me so much that I want you healing the world full-time!"

After I recovered from the shock of her statement, I asked for more guidance and was reminded of the words of Marianne Williamson, words that I hold as part of my mission statement: "As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

And that was the moment in which I understood that persistent woman. I was flooded with memories of the times I joyfully bought the services or products of others. The monthly checks I've sent to consultants, coaches and teachers that have energetically vibrated with the gratitude I feel towards each of them for helping me to know more of myself, and by extension, the Universe. The cash I hand over for groceries that will feed and nourish my family's bodies and souls. The credit card charges for books that have held another key to unlock the mysteries of the Universe to me. The payments I've made for automobiles that allow me the freedom to take jobs of my choosing, to travel the country on vacations, to present workshops and seminars.

All of these transactions hold a higher vibration than just exchanging goods. They are an 'energetic exchange' that honors and appreciates the talents and gifts and effort each of us offers. They are a co-creation in which I say, "this is the answer to my prayer!" The Universe, was, in fact listening when I let the It know what I needed. Not only did the Universe send it to me, but It sent me too, the means to engage in the 'energetic exchange' needed to pay for it.

And that was the most humbling awareness of all. That I, too, had a gift, an energy that was valued, that could serve as the basis for the exchange: my willingness to face my fears and liberate myself. That persistent woman gave me one of the greatest gifts of my life: honoring the gift that is ME! Just by BEing myself, following my burning desire, I made a sale that took me to new depths of understanding. No more selling. No serving others. Just BEing Me.

Business magazines Business magazines - Fast Company is pretty good if you're into technology although it can be very on the edge. Entrepreneur has become one giant advertisement and I cancelled my subscription. Selling Power also has some useful content if you're looking at improving your sales skills / presentations.
