The Client's Issue...
Being the CEO, it will be ideal if most of the people who work for me behave and act like entrepreneurs. Except for a few key managers, everyone else behaves more like employees. So what can you suggest to make an entrepreneur mindset possible?
The Coach Says...
If you want different results, you need to do things differently. In other words, if we want to change the way people think of themselves as employees, the current way of managing people need a big review. There are many things you can do, and those mentioned here are only to trigger your thoughts as you already have vast experiences managing people.
- Start at the top by identifying talented and committed people to engage their passion so that they can be role models to the rest.
- Develop them to be "conversation partners" who can engage deeply with people to find out how best they can be business entrepreneurs in their jobs.
- Restructure the organization with focus on moving back-office people to work closer with customers.
- Finally, create an "ownership structure". For instance, allocating a small discretionary budget for them to deal with customers' issue on the spot, share your financial statements and get people to identify what and how they have contributed to the bottom line.
- How can you manage differently from the way you used to?
- What can you do more and do differently to make your people closer to the organization?
- How do you effectively communicate your vision of an "entrepreneurial organisation" to your people?
- Who in your team can you select to quickly form a united front to jointly communicate and support this new vision?
- What should you be committed to now, to push this agenda till it becomes a reality?
