The Client asks:
I am a HR Director and am 53 years old. I'll be joining the ranks of retirees if I do not have a solid plan on what to do when I retire. I am seriously considering coaching as a career. Do you think it is appropriate for me to be in this field?
The Coach answers:
I too have been in HR for many years. HR practitioners will find coaching suitable for many reasons. Firstly, coaching and HR are people-based professions as devoting time with people is what they predominantly do. Secondly, both deals with goals, performance, motivation and helping people achieve them. Thirdly and perhaps the most important is that they rely on a variety of people's strategies to get them to overcome their obstacles, find their strengths and get them empowered over sustainable period of time. However, there are 3 key missing links for HR practitioners like you to patch up:
1) Learn how to institute the right structures and steps in getting people to their goals.
2) Sharpen those coaching competencies that are of high impact on coaching results.
3) Stengthen your outlook and personality to gain greater personal powers to inspire, persuade and influence people.
The Bottom Line:
Coaching is a people business for those who love to help people grow further in their lives.
Powerful Questions:
- Do you love to be with people?
- Do you have a desire to help people grow?
- Do you gain fulfilment when you see results happening in them?
- Do you have a natural flair in connecting with people easily?
