Tips for Driving Traffic from Sites like Facebook and Twitter

Social media has become the "Holy Grail" for those trying to drive traffic to their websites. With the ability to find prospects for their business opportunity for free, social media has become a huge funnel for business hype and claims of financial freedom. Unfortunately, not many network marketers know how to drive traffic successfully. An emotion of believing that they have the best business opportunity on the face of the earth forces them to want to bring everyone they come across into their opportunity. This emotion of excitement causes spamming on sites like Twitter and Facebook. Social media is a wonderful tool if used correctly and not used to become that one person that only talks about the same thing over and over.

Here are just a few tips on how to use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter correctly:

Social Media Do's and Don'ts:

Never -

1. Keep posting the same business opportunity over and over on social media sites. This will automatically label you as a spammer and on many social media sites. The admin of these sites may decide to close your account due to spamming.

2. Post your business opportunity on other people's walls or pages unless asked to. This goes especially for those individuals that send links to people they have just met on sites like Facebook with their business opportunity.

3. Try to market your business opportunity to everyone that crosses your path on social media. Many people will become annoyed by this approach and will remove you from their list of friends or followers.

4. Post updates with a link that is not relevant to the update. For example, inspirational and motivational quotes are used often in social media. Attaching a link to your business opportunity to a quote that is irrelevant will cause you to not only seem unprofessional, but also as someone that is only out for the money and not to provide value and leadership to others.

Always -

1. Build a relationship with new friends and followers on social media. Your goal is for others to get to know you in more detail so as they can make a decision for themselves as to whether you are someone that is honest, trustworthy, and dedicated to the success of others.

2. Drive your friends and followers to your blog page instead of directly to your website landing page. Your blog serves as the central nervous system for your marketing efforts. Here you can post about what business opportunity you are involved with. If they are interested, how they can become a part of it as well.

3. Post information that will be considered valuable to those friends and followers that are involved in network marketing. An example would be posting information regarding "How-To" do certain marketing strategies and your personal experience with those specific strategies.

4. Leave comments on other's posts and provide them with positive feedback. On sites like Twitter, RT's(re-tweets) are a great way to build relationships with others. Re-tweeting someone's post also increases that person's online presence, eventually helping them with their efforts online.

5. On Facebook, post videos and pictures of yourself or others you are directly involved with in order to provide others with further information as to who you are and what you do. Let others decide for themselves as to whether they would like to receive further information.

These are just a few tips that can help you in driving more traffic to your business through Twitter and Facebook. Re: Facebook or Twitter? Re: Facebook or Twitter? - Thanks for the feedback guys! I personally started with Twitter and am now moving over to Facebook. I polled people on both my accounts and (not surprisingly) the Twitter people said Twitter and the Facebook people said Facebook! The actual order of my social media presence looks like this: 1) LinkedIn (with little success) 2) Twitter 3) YouTube 4) Facebook
Re: Twitter vs Facebook Re: Twitter vs Facebook - I use Facebook pages for Business and rarely ever use Twitter. I hace lost count of the no. of Hotels that I have visited, regarding their marketing campaigns, that may have 5k Facebook Fans and only 100 followers on Twitter. It is a lot more difficult to engage with people on Twitter and thus harder to gain traction. If you are a business like Nike, then Twitter is great, but if you are an SME, then focus on Facebook or LinkedIn (if you are providing a professional service.) You can always have your Facebook feed directly in to Twitter, so you can have a presence on both, but do the work on one. Also check out ping.fm for managing campaigns - it is a free tool, and a great time saver.
Re: Twitter direct messages qustion Re: Twitter direct messages qustion - Twitter just takes so much time reading through updates and socializing with people, without much benefit, in my opinion. I sometimes post updates myself when I have time or feel I have something to share. My blog posts are automatically updated to Twitter and Facebook. In fact, I get more of a response to my updates from Facebook than I do from Twitter. I would much rather spend more time on Facebook.
Advantages with Social Media Sites Advantages with Social Media Sites - I just want to share my article about social media sites. Local Google Traffic - Social Media Sites There are other important ways to connect with your customers beyond Google Places, however. Some we already mentioned – other Google properties – which we will cover in more detail shortly. But first, let’s look at a relatively new way to reach your customers to promote your mortgage brokers marketing business – social media. One of the fastest growing segments of the internet over the last few years is what's known as Social Media. Facebook and Twitter are the two most well-known examples of social media sites that are gaining popularity these days as worthy means to promote online businesses. Having a Facebook page is becoming more and more important and now can function as a marketing tool for mortgage broker, because people have come to expect it. There are over 600 million users on Facebook, and if you don't have a presence there you're missing out on a lot of potential business. Plus, for many people Facebook has become synonymous with the internet. A lot of people spend most of their time online using Facebook, so if you aren't reaching them there, you may not have a chance to reach them at all. Facebook started out as a way to connect on a personal level, but over the last couple of years they have added a lot of features that are targeted at businesses. You’ve probably already started to notice a lot of big companies adding “Find us on Facebook” to their websites, advertising and other places. It can work just as well for local businesses; in fact it can work even better. Because Facebook is by nature a place to be “social” a local business fits in much better than a big, faceless corporation. Setting up a Facebook Page for your business gives you a way to connect with your customers “virtually” and it can help to create a real sense of community particularly in marketing your mortgage business. Twitter is another social media site where you should definitely have a presence. It’s a little different beast, because the whole point is to post short updates (up to 140 characters at a time) so you can only share so much information. It can be useful for sending out messages about special offers and other news, but more importantly it’s another way for your customers and potential customers to contact you. Your customers can send you messages, called “Tweets”, via Twitter so it is similar to email in some ways. But because the messages are so short, it can be an effective way for them to ask quick questions or give you quick feedback, without having to invest a lot of time to do it. Aside from reaching potential customers, there's another reason you should have a presence in these places - managing your brand. People will talk about their experiences with your company on the internet whether you're part of it or not. It's important that you are aware and updated.
Re: Facebook or Twitter? Re: Facebook or Twitter? - Hi Evan, Good question, I would tell entrepreneurs to start with Twitter, not because I think it is better but because it is more immediate and user friendly. Facebook has a lot more options and is better developed but can be very confusing to someone who is trying to build a business. More experienced entrepreneurs may prefer Facebook over Twitter because of the applications available but I must say that Twitter are not standing still in this area so things could be completely different this time next year. regards, Mal.
