How Inspirational Quotes inspire Self-Improvement?

When I read many books and articles I find myself gravitating to the self-help and self-improvement sections. I think that at least once a week the average person should devote at least 20 minutes to themselves through self-help and self-improvement books. From reading a range of books from authors such as Hill Harper, Sidney Poitier, Donald Trump, and President Barack Obama I discovered that self improvement should be at the forefront of people’s lives, especially when it comes to bettering there lives. From all those books and personal experience I want to discuss some great strategies I use to facilitate my self-improvement.

The first strategy I use is cultivating a positive attitude through inspirational quotes. I have a quote I say to myself everyday that helps to keep me focused and on track to any goals I may have. It’s by Chris Gardner it goes “If you want something in life go and get it period”; I think this is so in line with self-improvement. This quote doesn’t allow for excuses or procrastination and it helps me to keep a clear mind that is only open to positive growth. The next big quote I use is by Descartes and its “I think therefore I Am”, I learned this in college and I think it says so much in so little words. Self-improvement begins a lot with a mindset and Descartes says it because when he highlights just thinking of something makes one who they are.

The next area of self-improvement involves mentoring. The best way for anyone to do well is to give back. This is done through mentoring. When one can be a positive influence in someone else’s live and be that person who gives sincere insight to them, then they are helping the person and themselves. I learned this a lot through the Bible and through my family.

The last area I want to discuss in self improvement is volunteering. Volunteering one’s time in an effort to help an organization or young people can help immensely. When one is helping to create something or get something done free of charge it’s more fulfilling because now work is being done with no monetary expectation.

As a whole self-improvement is important and I think it gets overlooked and forgotten in today’s world because of schedules and peoples excuses. I say don’t allow life to pass you by without partaking in some form of personal improvement. Inspirational quotes, mentoring, and volunteering all can help one to better themselves because it helps me on a daily basis.

Facebook application Facebook application - Hi Kevin - thanks for the suggestion! The two that we were thinking of were Famous Entrepreneur Quotes and Which famous entrepreneur am I most like? I like your idea as well. We've got a rollout schedule of new features for the site that we are working on first before we can get to the Facebook app. We're also not sure how hard it is to integrate into Facebook. It looks like there is a php way to do it which is great because that is our core competency.

[/quote:36s714h1] So far my own foray into Facebook has been a complete bust, though I expected that from the start. But if I do an Application for my own particular field of interest, such as Your Favorite Sci Fi movie...that might get people going. So Evan when you figure out how to do this please let me know how complicated it is!!
Re: EC Forum Badge? Re: EC Forum Badge? - Thanks GT, Hmmmm, I use firefox and see it. Might just put it in a text box to be sure. The stats counter would be interesting, might even inspire a contest?
Frumpy or sleek? The wrong face drives away customers Frumpy or sleek? The wrong face drives away customers - I've got a Discovery News Feed on my Google Desktop, and every morning I usually click on one or two headlines. The first time I do this, I'm always brought to a "splash page" or "ad page" or whatever it's called, in which a frumpy woman (middle aged, bad hair cut - or just on a bad hair day, pinny over her dress, clutching a few papers and smiling) is juxtaposed over some ad about the dangers of high cholesterol and what to do about it. Now, I am a feminist, and I see no reason why middle aged women should have to primp and preen and watch their weight (any more than younger women should) and that these women can advertise anything just as well as anybody else...but the fact remains that I pay no attention to this ad because this "face" simply doesn't inspire confidence as someone who would know anything about cholesterol. It's "just" a housewife. Put the same woman - same expression and everything - in a white lab coat and I might pay more attention to her. Have this woman as she now is trying to sell chocolate cake or something like that, and I'd pay attention to her. But as it is, the image doesn't inspire confidence in the message.
