Introduction to SEO and PageRank for Websites and Blogs

Using the Internet to get the word out about your business can be something of a puzzle if you have never attempted it before. However, if you follow some simple guidelines, you will find that you can steadily gain exposure to promote your products and services. One of the very best ways to make your company more visible online is through successful search engine optimization (SEO). This technique can also be very inexpensive, especially when compared to more traditional forms of advertising like magazines and newspapers.

Online marketing can actually be remarkably effective if you manage to successfully optimize your website's search engine visibility. Most people find the information that they are seeking via portals such as Google, Yahoo or Bing. While there are many players in this game, the most dominant is Google. Google uses a proprietary link analysis computer program to constantly search and catalog web pages and blogs then ranks them based on a variety of factors. The end result is called your "Google PageRank." Your Google PageRank will determine how quickly and easily visitors will find your website.

Having your web page or blog properly optimized for search engine results is one part of the battle. Another key aspect is consistently creating relevant and interesting content. If a search engine sees that you are regularly updating your site with valuable information, you will be rewarded with a better ranking and your site will be positioned higher in the search results. Subsequently, more people will visit your website and your sales will increase.

Creating interesting web content that people not only want to read, but also feel is useful, can go a long way towards making your online business a success. Simply tossing a web page or blog online and expecting the money to flow in just isn't realistic. You need to work the site and cultivate its growth in order to see any consistent results.

Attracting targeted visitors, as the result of search engine optimization, is an effective and low cost approach that should not be overlooked. Along with building quality content for your site, it will generate ongoing, consistent and profitable results.

Page Rank From Google Toolbar Page Rank From Google Toolbar - The Google Toolbar gets the information from Google for each page you visit. Google PageRank changes periodically. If this page was created after the last PageRank update then typically you would have to wait until the next update before you would see a change in Toolbar PageRank.

Alexa, Google Alexa, Google - Hi Jen, Alexa is not perfect by any stretch... but it is the best tool available to get a sense of where you rank - unless you have another idea in mind? Barbara, Google's update happened in the beginning of March and I tested out a few changes on my site through March and April before figuring out the right changes to make. The past 2 weeks have been some of my best so far but it also coincides with the recent PageRank update that Google has put out. Perhaps your site lost some PageRank scoring with the recent update.
