What is an Entrepreneur?

According to Wikipedia, “An entrepreneur is a person who has possession of a new enterprise, venture or idea and assumes significant accountability for the inherent risks and the outcome.” The traits of a successful entrepreneur, however, are much more diverse than this statement implies.

Vision

Profitable entrepreneurs set goals, define their vision, know their strengths and weaknesses, and take advantage of opportunities that arise on a daily basis. They remain committed to those goals and don’t get sidetracked by less productive activities.

Organization

A successful entrepreneur knows the value of organization in any business endeavor. Preset methods of operation and consistent day-to-day routines are imperative. They develop positive habits and reinforce them daily.

Innovation

“Is a change in the thought process for doing something, or the useful application of new inventions or discoveries.” Entrepreneurs are people who can perceive opportunities where others cannot and will stop at nothing to achieve their desired outcome.

Risk and Failure

An entrepreneur must always be ready to take calculated risks and face whatever consequences those risks may incur. Entrepreneurs must have the courage to face failure and start over again despite these setbacks. They are able to take constructive criticism and adapt their business accordingly.

An entrepreneurial mindset can exist in any size and type of business. Entrepreneurs are self-motivated and believe that they can control their own level of success. They also accept responsibility for failure as this too is under their control. Competitive by nature, most entrepreneurs challenge themselves as much as they do their peers. This internal motivation is what drives them beyond the status quo.
