Make Attraction Marketing Work For You.

Since Attraction Marketing became popular through the writings of Mike Dillard, Ann Sieg and others, just about every second Internet marketer seems to be jumping on the ‘I’m attractive’ bandwagon. And in many cases it doesn’t really work. This reminds me of a recent television series.

I am not a big TV fan, since I view it as an electronic income reducer, but my wife convinced me to have a look at the reality program ‘True Beauty’, purely for its amusement value. This is the series in which a group of young people compete for the title of being the most attractive person. I am not sure exactly which personal attributes were being appraised, but it was almost painful for me to watch the vanity of this bunch of young narcissistic upstarts, so under the impression of their ‘beauty’ (i.e. pretty faces), yet so devoid of real character.

So what bearing does a TV program have on Internet marketing? A lot! In marketing, as on TV, you cannot consistently keep up a pretense. You cannot radiate qualities that you don’t have. Oh sure, you can put up a front (very easy on the web), but sooner or later the cracks will shine through the veneer.

I prefer the idea of authenticity or ‘authentic marketing’. Yes, if there is anything attractive about you, people (other Internet marketers) will be drawn to you, but you should be authentic, i.e. your true self, in the first place. Do not fake it!

So here are a few things that you, as an Internet Marketer, can do:

- First and foremost, be your authentic self. Do not pretend to be what you are not. Exhibit your good qualities, and work hard on your shortcomings.

- Be unique in terms of the way you present yourself on the Internet. Nobody finds a replicated cookie-cutter appearance interesting.

- Believe in yourself. Others can sense that (or, conversely, the absence thereof).

- Be visible! On the Web that is very easy with present-day social media such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Tell me... if you do a Google search on your own name; how many of the first page listings are yours?

- Work frantically at developing your marketing skills. Decide what you like, or can afford, be that PPC or video marketing or whatever, and become an expert in that area. The better your skills, the better your self-confidence. With the massive amount of information available on the web, this is almost the smallest

hurdle.

- Help other marketers where you can. Give without expecting anything in return. It will eventually come back to you. That’s the way the Universe works. And don’t underestimate your knowledge. On 28 August 2009 there were an estimated 1,668,870,408 Internet users. If your marketing skills are average, it means that you know more than about 843,000,000 other Internet users!

If you view everything I said here in a dating context, it will all make sense. Now go and do something about it!

Do what i did Do what i did - I had the same dilemma. My solution? I started my own marketing firm! No, in all reality, even if you have a degree in Marketing, you will have to take crappy entry-level jobs to get your foot in the door. Make the most of them by taking on extra tasks that will give you skills that will improve your resume. It's a slow process, but if you can get just one job in Marketing, you're on your way!
