Corporate Zombies

Corporate zombies... where do I even start. Society has imposed this system upon us which most of us seem more than happy to fit into. We don’t think about it... we don’t question it... we just do. Most of us are in the system from the time we’re about 4 years old until we’re about 60 years old. By the time we’re 18, most of us have probably spent a good 14 years in the system, throughout various levels of education in school. Now I’m not bashing education, but honestly I could have learned everything I did in high school by reading a few books on my own.

Most of us have had it with school by this point, but guess what’s next... more school! Yep... what are we told is the right thing to do if we want to get ahead in life, get a good job, and retire with some money? College. Thousands and thousands of dollars, and several more years of education. After having been through 18 years of education, it’s a fact that most of us STILL don’t know what we want to do with our lives. Yet we find a job which will pay the bills. We go to work for 8 hours a day, and fit right into the system.

To tell you the truth I was once a corporate zombie myself. I went through the entire system I just finished describing. I simply didn’t know any better and didn’t question anything... I just did what I thought I was supposed to do. I went to school, I went to college, I got a job... it’s just what everyone does.

Until recently I was relatively happy... but not too long ago I started to dread the daily 9 – 5 lifestyle. What was I doing with my life?! Certainly not what I wanted to be doing. Every day the same thing... wake up at 7 am... go to work... come home... have a few short hours to myself... go to bed... then relive the same thing 5 days a week. I didn’t even like my job that much... it was simply a means to an end. I started to question the system most of us are brought into, and I started to loathe it. Why was I spending most of my waking life in a place (my job) I didn’t want to be?!

I soon had a massive shift in the way I thought. I wanted out... I didn’t want to be a corporate zombie anymore. I wanted FREEDOM. I wanted more time to spend with my wife (fiancee'?), more time to spend with my friends, more time to travel... more time to do what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted out and I took my life into my OWN hands. I told myself I would find a way out, and I wouldn’t give up until I did. What I found was that there are other alternatives out there... alternatives which provide the time and financial freedom so many people desire... these alternatives are simply unbeknownst to many of us.

Now after having said all of this, there’s nothing WRONG with being a “corporate zombie”. Some people actually do enjoy their 9 – 5 jobs, and the lifestyle that it provides. The fact is, however, that most people don’t. How many of us are TRULY happy doing what we do for a living? If you’re one of many who are not happy, there are other options out there. You don’t need to be a corporate zombie... you don’t need to fit into the system. Take your life into your own hands, and change your life!
