Technology Is Changing Traditional Brick & Mortar Business

Advertising for traditional brick and mortar business is not what it used to be. The ways of hard-copy advertising... of yellow page ads... of classified ads... are not what they used to be. Sure, they may still be useful, but more and more people are turning to the Internet daily, as a simpler way to find what they’re searching for. Hard-copy advertising is becoming obsolete.
Unlike with hard-copy advertising, the reach of Internet advertising is limitless. You’re not relegated to a yellow pages listing specific to your city or area... you can reach the entire world, and with relative ease if you know what you’re doing. What’s more incredible is that advertising on the Internet can be done for free. Yes 100% for free. You have the potential to reach a larger base of customers, and at no cost. Are you aware that you can have your website ranking highly for free on sites like Google, Yahoo and Bing (some of the most popular websites on the Internet) if your website is configured to do so? How would you like to appear on the first page of Google when someone searches for your product of service in their area?
Are you advertising on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube? These are not just toys for adolescents... these are sites which generate MASSIVE amounts of traffic, and an area of business on which you’re missing out if you haven’t learned to properly exploit them (once again all completely free).
Paid advertising on search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) can also be incredibly lucrative, while also bringing you essentially instant traffic. Yes... have your ad appear literally within minutes of when it was created in search results, bringing you targeted traffic and business. Advertise without the know-how however, and you’re bound to get eaten alive. Without proper optimization, you can lose a lot of money, and very quickly with this type of advertising.
Traditional advertising is changing and evolving. Has your business kept up? If you’re missing out on any of the aforementioned areas of advertisement, you could be missing out on massive business.

Some interesting statistics: Between 1997 and 2006, privately held businesses owned by women grew at 3 times the rate of all American privately owned firms, women's companies are creating jobs and growing profits at twice the rate of all firms and are responsible for more payroll than all of the Fortune 500 companies combined. This book tells the stories of a few women who have made it big...recommended reading so you know that "you can do it, too."
