Turn Up The Heat

Living through the heat wave that swept most of the country made my temperature-addled mind wander to other times when the heat was pressing down on me. Most of those times had nothing to do with air temperature. Of course, any conversation about heat with Peter Pamela Rose, most esteemed Executive and Life Coach, will eventually turn to discipline as it would with any dedicated coach. Peter has encountered as many dreams as she has clients, for each person's dream is as unique as they are. What so many of these dreamers lack is discipline, says Peter. But without it, they will remain dreamers and not pursuers of a dream. "Consistence and persistence" is a phrase you'll hear Peter say time and again. She teaches it, and she lives it. Her philosophy is that these two actions, together, create the environment for success. "They are the most valuable combination of tools a person can acquire."

A colleague of Peter's husband told her at a party once, "Maturity is the difference between going after what you want and going after what you think you want." We all have a million ideas about what we think we want. We say we want money, but what we really want is an abundant life. We say we want to change the world, but what we really want is to have a life filled with purpose. Abundance means fullness to overflowing. If all areas of our life are full to overflowing, our purses will be, too. By finding a purpose in life - our passion - and offering that passion in service to others, we will change the world.

As you continue to work with Peter, her coaching sessions become a training ground for building discipline. She is your accountability. You communicate to her the goals you want to achieve. She helps you unveil the steps that will bring you closer and closer to achieving your goals. Between coaching sessions you have assignments to complete, and if the assignments aren't completed, Peter will help you discover why. Perhaps it was something beyond your control. Perhaps it was a lack of discipline. Keeping our word to others is so much easier than keeping our word to ourselves. But what we communicate to ourselves when we do that is, "I'm not worth the effort."

Discipline is effort. And so, Peter Pamela Rose, being the dedicated coach that she is, turns up the heat. She'll ask you to think about the world-class athlete that trains in extreme conditions, like 123 degree weather. She'll ask you if you think he hasn't thought about skipping a workout that day. Then she'll ask you what you think his final decision was. And finally, she'll ask you if what you want is, perhaps, only what you think you want. Because if you really want it, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes no matter the "heat" that's pressing down on you. Your discipline muscles begin to build. You become worth the effort. Your dreams become reality.

On Escalade On Escalade - I've seen the ad for "Turn you on" on TV here in Toronto but not the others. Yeah my girlfriend liked that ad too and started telling me wouldn't it be great to have one, I had to quickly remind her that one of the reasons we moved downtown was so that we could get rid of the car and plus we don't have a parking space for it. Honestly, I was seriously considering it.
Re: Getting *back* to the next step Re: Getting *back* to the next step - I think small things can make a big difference. Cut corners when ever possible. To the point that you don't lose any business. For example: start using cheaper products around the office. You'd be surprised how much money you can save just by going to a less expensive brand for the same items. Start soliciting referrals. People are happy to give you a good one if you've done a good job. You just have to ASK. Word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising and it's the least expensive = free! Turn off lights and computers and even pull plugs on appliances on the weekends, or even every night if you have time and aren't using them. This saves a lot of energy in the long run and you should be conserving energy anyway. Dare I say this......shake the printer ink and make it go another 50 copies. Over a year you can save quite a bit in ink costs. There are other cuts you can make that won't impact the quality of your service/product if you sit down and really think it over, but this is a start.
Useful Business Cards Useful Business Cards - At one point in my business I branched out into many other avenues and had multiple divsions within the main company. I was in a rush to get the word out, so I ordered business cards for each division. Several months later I brought in a marketing director and manager to help out and the first thing she did was to redesign my cards. I still use the cards she created. They have business name, my name, contact info, website, tag line and license and insurance info on the front. Turn the card over and there's a list of the services we offer. A couple of the advantages she pointed out to me were - 1 - I only had to keep up with and hand out one card - 2 - multiple services listed on one card gives the opportunity for clients to have us do additional work. Our yellow page ads use a similar plan and have helped us do repeat work and additional work for many clients. Chris
