Bridging the Victory Gap The 6 Steps to Success Conclusion
“To know and not to act is not to know.” Simple, but devastatingly true. Over the last few articles, we have explored a number of elements that are critical to grow your business. But the knowledge of those elements will mean nothing if you do not implement that knowledge.
Before exploring how to put things into action, let me summarize what we have covered. First, there are a number of Critical Victory Factors (CVF’s) that are common to all businesses. Those CVF’s are: subject matter expertise; success mindset; financial management; sales/marketing; team building; systems/operations; and time management. If training or skill in any of these areas is lacking in your business, then the business’ growth potential is restricted.
Second, when introducing these CVF’s into your business, it is important to proceed in a rational order. By following the 6 Steps, you are constantly building the next level on strong supports underneath. The 6 Steps again are: Mastery, Niche, Leverage, Team, Synergy and Freedom.
Third, we discovered that knowledge of these CVF’s and the other 6 Steps won’t matter if our minds aren’t focused on success. Success mindset is the starting point. Developing the attitudes of success is an ongoing journey. There are whole sections of bookstores and multiple weeklong workshops dedicated to the subject. We introduced the ideas that how we ask ourselves questions and how we set our goals can dramatically influence our beliefs, which then ultimately determine our actions.
This small amount of information we have touched on over the past few weeks can make an incredible difference in your business, if applied. Experience suggests that, regrettably, most who have read these articles will not make the changes that this information would allow them to. And the reason is simple. We are creatures of inertia. If you recall your high school physics, you will know that an object in motion tends to remain in motion in the same direction and velocity unless subjected to an external force. How can you subject yourself to sufficient force to change your direction?
Let me share a formula with you, that is a formula for successful change. It is this:
D x V + P + S > R
It means, where support (S) and a plan (P) are added to dissatisfaction (D) combined with a vision (V), resistance ( R ) will be overcome. So, to overcome your own resistance, you have to become clear about what you really want and about how truly unacceptable it is that you don’t have that yet. By this, I don’t mean only material possessions. How much freedom do you want? How much time to spend with your family? How many vacations? What size of business would be ideal? What would the business’ position in the community be?
Once you become clear on the vision and the unacceptability of the gap between the present and the envisioned, you can then build a plan to bridge the gap. Then, you need to accept that you are not a lone wolf. You need support from others to succeed. That is part of the leverage we discussed. Where do you get that support? Family, friends, networks of other entrepreneurs or professional advisors like your lawyer, accountant or your business coach. They can provide you support and help you work out a plan.
The ability to have a vision, create a plan and gain support is developed when you seek out what I call E-cubed or E to the power of 3. The 3 elements are:
• Education
• Experience
• Environment
By continually learning, taking action so you gain experience and confidence and by surrounding yourself with inspiring, supportive, and challenging people, you will exponentially increase your chances of success.

If you feel that you want to climb the 6 Steps, you must take action. And it must be new action or you will not generate new results. To avoid falling back into the old patterns, develop the attitudes of success, create a clear vision of your ideal life, develop a plan to achieve that vision and make absolutely sure that you surround yourself with supportive people and organizations that will help you across the divide. Then, take Action!
