4 Ways to Stay Connected This Summer!
How many times have you heard an entrepreneur say "I'm slowing down for the summer???" That's when I often ask them: "Are you in business or are you just busy?" (I heard that comment from Suzanne Falter-Barnes and absolutely loved it.)
I find it interesting to hear many women in business complain about a lack of clients, a lack of revenue, a lack of focus and yet they buy into the concept that there just isn't any business happening in the summer months. I, for one, intend to be ‘out there' picking up all the business that is just waiting to be had. Now, don't get me wrong. I, too, look forward to the summer months so I can catch my breath and get on top of a few things. However, in no way do I believe that there just isn't any business going on.
The summer can be an ideal time to grow your business, increase your revenues and reach your goals. It is also an ideal time for any woman who is starting over (in life and/or in business), or for those who have felt disconnected and disengaged through the winter to get back in the game.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to stay connected:
1. CREATE AN ON-LINE PRESENCE
For women in business, it is essential that you have an on-line presence. You must develop a strategy and a plan and if this is something totally new, or foreign, to you - then hire someone who is an expert and who can help you. Create a ‘Fan Page" on Facebook and use it for promoting your business. Be sure you have an account on LinkedIn and use that tool strategically. Create a You Tube account - search engines love video clips! Get all of these connected to your Twitter account and then be sure to hire someone who can manage all of this for you. For staying connected personally, Facebook is an ideal tool - it helps me to keep in touch with my family and friends around the world. I love it.
2. WRITE A WARM LETTER
This is a habit I have developed since working with my business coach, Fabienne Fredrickson. She recommended this as a unique technique for reaching out and staying in touch with friends, colleagues and clients to keep them informed as to what is going on in your business - it also helps to create referrals. On a personal note, summer is a great time to actually sit down and write a few personal notes to friends and family. Buy some pretty stationary and just do it - perhaps a note a week - it will certainly create a ‘shock and awe' reaction because we, typically, do not get this type of mail any more. It will have long-lasting results.
3. NETWORK
Now, as you read above, I have heard that many networking groups ‘close down' for the summer. Well, if that's the case, then create your own networking opportunities. Make a list of 10-12 high-achieving, inspiring women in business that you would like to get to know better. Connect with them and arrange a 1-1 coffee meeting. It's the perfect time to do this - ensure, however, that you do have a purpose and an (informal) agenda so that the time is well spent and meaningful to both of you. On a personal note, do the same thing with that friend who ‘you meant to call' all winter! The time is now.
4. JOIN A MASTER MIND GROUP
What a perfect time, during the summer, to ensure you are part of a powerful, focused, success team and you get to meet monthly to learn, share and support each other as you grow and develop your business. Be sure it is the ‘right' master mind group for you and that there is leadership and learning involved. On a personal note, I always met with a group of friends ("Earls' Girls" is what we called ourselves) on a patio somewhere during the summer; it was important for us to stay connected.
When I was on my trip around the world, I made sure that I stayed connected by way of writing a blog. On my first trip, I didn't even know what a blog was! My webmaster set it up for me so that, in the beginning, I could stay connected with my family and friends. That blog took on a life of its own - still getting over 500 hits a month!
So, as you can see, there are at least 4 ways to stay connected this summer - so that you can grow your business, increase your revenue and attract ideal clients. The bottom line is that YOU need to set the intention and then, take action!
"People with goals succeed because they know where they are going." - Earl Nightingale
CONCLUSION
What is your intention, and goal, for staying connected this summer - whether you are in business, starting over or just wanting to ‘get back in the game'???
YOUR ASSIGNMENT
1. Decide, today, that you are not going to ‘buy into' the fact that business comes to a halt over the summer months.
2. Set the intention to attract ‘x' number of new (ideal) clients over the summer months.
3. Write out your goals for the next 3 months - to increase your revenues, grow your business or, in fact, to just get started if you are new to business.
Do some of these exercises and I guarantee that you will attract clients and increase revenues over the summer months. When you live by intent, you are developing the confidence and courage to move forward and invent the life, and the business, you truly want. You also become much more fun to live with!
