7 Foolproof Business Networking Tips

It is one of the facts of life that the more confident you are in social situations, the more successful you will be in making new friends and business contacts while networking. Just be cautious - you never want it to come off as over-confidence. Follow these 7 tips - you'll see that business networking can really work to your advantage and you'll hit the right note every time.

The Value of Worrying

With a current world picture that includes tsunamis, unrest in the Middle East and a struggling economic recovery, it might be tempting to say that the Mayans were right and we're approaching the end in 2012. Maybe the Mayans were just good at math, which we all know can be helpful but won't necessarily get you a date. (We tend to remember Olympic champions but rarely sing the praises of a mathlete.) Just because an ancient civilization did not outlive its own calendar doesn't mean it's the end of the world for us.

Man who killed pitcher gets 51 years to life

Andrew Gallo, 24, acknowledged his deadly mistake to the grieving relatives of his victims and said he expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars before a judge sentenced him to 51 years to life in prison. "I know whatever I say will not change anything or the way you think or feel about me," said Gallo, who faced the judge because he was not permitted to look at the courtroom audience. "You're right. I am a horrible person, a drunk driver who took your beautiful kids away," he said.

Drinking and Driving = Consequences

Drunk driving is widely understood to be risky and dangerous, not only to the driver and passengers but also to other people on the road, including drivers and pedestrians. Four out of every ten fatal car accidents in the United States are alcohol-related. Each year, 25,000 people die and 708,000 are injured in alcohol-related collisions. Alcohol-related crashes result in the death of 500 people per week, or more than 70 every day. Statistically, half of all Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related car accident in their lifetime. Despite these alarming statistics, it happens all around us every day. Far too often, who have been drinking fail to heed the potential consequences, and get behind the wheel of a car.

This Holiday Season - Heed MADD's Message

Each year, during this holiday season, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) conducts the Tie One On for Safety public awareness initiative, to encourage us all to “Drive Safe, Sober and Buckled Up.” Tie One On for Safety, originally named the Project Red Ribbon Campaign, was created in 1986 to help heighten public attention to drinking and driving during the holiday season.

Teenage Wasteland? It Doesn't Have To Be!

Someone once said that everyone should be born at 50. That way we would be wise right from the start! Unfortunately, that is not the case. And as far as parenting goes there is no instruction tag on our children either. There are so many temptations for teenagers that even the most responsible teens make poor decisions. Parents can do many things to help educate and inform our youth of dangers that can arise, but in the legal aspect, the best thing a parent can do is know your family's rights and responsibilities as stated by the law.

Keepers

I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, garden hose in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things ... a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep

Keep Looking Up and Take Back Our Liberties

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.

Driving Smart: A Guide for Parents and Teens

FACT: Drivers 15 to 20 years old have nearly 20-percent more fatal car crashes than any other age group.

Parent Rules Do Affect Teens' Choices Re: Drinking

As teenagers mature into their senior year of high school, many parents begin to feel more comfortable about letting them drink alcohol. But new research from brain scientists and parenting experts suggests loosening the reins on drinking may not be a good idea in the long run. And, researchers say, parents' approach to addressing teen drinking does influence a teen's behavior.
