Profit Growth Strategy #1 for Virtual Assistants
Pick Your Niche
Picking your niche is a guaranteed way to improve your profitability. There are several reasons for this. Here are three of the top reasons:
1.You will become an expert at your clients’ businesses—the business models, the needs, all possible profit streams and the best suppliers for the industry. This is highly valuable information to your clients. You will be rewarded for sharing it with them.
2.You will become more proficient at the work required in this industry and therefore reduce the learning curve. Any reduction in hours will be offset by more premium rates and additional clients.
3.You will receive more recommendations. Assuming you are great at what you do, the word will spread like wildfire. You can work for companies in the same industry but in different locations so you don’t have non-compete or non-disclosure concerns. In addition, you can find the best suppliers of your clients and work for them.
Your reputation is everything. The more you specialize in your niche by learning about the needs and the desired value potential clients in the industry are seeking, the better you can serve them and charge a premium price.

employees or 1099?
- In my line of work, we are trying to keep our costs down and stay as "virtual" as possible. I was wondering if anyone had some insight as to whether I should hire employees or contractors?
My apologies, here is a description of the situation so you might actually be able to answer my question.
Little Man Consulting has a policy to NOT meet with clients unless they are truly against the completely virtual environment. As my company has quadropled in size this year alone, I am finding it harder and harder to keep up with the work and still grow the business. There are other Virtual Assistants out there. Should I farm out the work, or bring in employees?
Re: How can I promote my site?
- [quote="Hulbert Lee":krqwp5om]You can promote your website through blog commenting, forum posting, article directories, software directories, and search engine optimization.[/quote:krqwp5om]
In addition, I would also recommend running some contest if you have a blog. Keep it simple for a starter, offer good/fun prizes, and find a "community" of bloggers to spread this contest/news by of course asking them nicely and propose that it would benefit both of your sites. See how that works, and if you want to, you could also join some carnivals. We have tried this for the company that I work for (Pepper Virtual Assistants) and it's given us great exposure in the online business industry.
Book: Secrets of Six Figure Women
- Secrets of Six Figure Women: Surprising Strategies to up your earning and change your life
Barbara Stanny, 2002
Jacket:
Maybe you've noticed - a subtle trend is gathering steam. Quietly and steadily, the number of women making six figures or more is increasing, and it continues to rise at a rate faster than for men. From entrepreneurs to corporate executives, from white collar executives to free lancers and part timers, women are forging careers with considerable financial success.
Through extensive research and hundreds of interviews, including dialogs with more than 150 high earners whose annual incomes range from $100,000 to 7 million, Stanny discovered that ...they all had certain traits in common:
1) a profit motive
2) Audacity
3) REslience
4) Encouragement
5) Self-awareness
6) Non-attachment
7) Financial knowhow
She amplifies on these in the book itself.
