Time Trackers For Greater Productivity

Want to know how many hours you spent last week on the website for your new client? Need to track your team's hours by function? Want to figure out your hourly wage by project? Or maybe you would like to monitor the time you spend playing solitaire or cruising blogs? Then what you need is a time-tracking software program. You have a bevy of paid and free options to track your time. Here are a few suggestions.

Klok

This desktop application allows you to create a visual representation of your time, track by client or project, and export your time totals to your time sheets for clients. Available as individual licenses for $15.99.

Paymo

This system provides free time tracking and three invoices for individuals. You may also use overview and reporting systems for businesses, for $3.99 per user per month. You can sort and track by user, client, project, and task, and track by iPhone or desktop.

Toggl

One-click tracking on your computer or iPhone with Toggl. Free for up to five users; plans scale up from there. You can also embed Toggl into your favorite Internet application, like iGoogle or Gmail.

RescueTime

RescueTime doesn't just let you track your time; it helps you focus by blocking distracting sites (Facebook, anyone?). It also creates time tracking reports and graphs. RescueTime's Solo Lite is available for free but is limited on features; Solo Pro is available for $6-$9 per month, and the Team Edition is available for $15/month or less.

Clock My Time

Clock My Time is a desktop widget for Yahoo or Vista. You simply download the widget to your desktop and use it to track your time. You can monitor your or your team's time from any Internet-enabled computer. $10 per user per year.

iPhone apps

If you are on an iPhone, you have a number of low-cost apps for your own tracking time, including ClockedIn, Timely, and Easy TimeSheet. Be careful when shopping for an iPhone app, though, as some require a membership subscription to a more powerful desktop application.

When evaluating your time tracking options, consider:

Once you select a time tracking program, be sure to USE it. Just like a budget, it won't do any good just sitting on your desktop. Put it to use to increase your productivity and start saving time... and money!

If you have a great time tracking software that you use and recommend, I would love to hear about it.

Re: Time-Management Success Story! Re: Time-Management Success Story! - @Michelle @Trent I know what you mean! On Monday I had four key objectives to achieve. I didn't write them down - they were so strongly impressed in my noddle that I didn't need to! Perhaps keeping things simple and urgent is the key... Yesterday was a reasonably successful day, but not half as productive as Monday. Productivity always takes a dive when I have two classes to teach in two different parts of town at two different times of day (lunch time/evening)!
Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.
