A Big Fat Issue

Guest post by: Linda Sage

Article Overview: The whole "fat" issue is almost a trillion dollar industry. One pound of fat means so many things, to so many people. For some a fleeting thought, to others a cause for suicide. The actual fat itself is not the problem, but the reality to ourselves of what it makes us feel; reality like beauty is in the eye of the beholder

A Big Fat Issue

Having been dumped into the shark infested, turbulent waters of the "Single Social Scene" on the Costa Blanca, over a year ago; and having passed the phase of wishing to decapitate any male that glanced my way, let alone talk to me, or come within 50 yards, I made a decision to make changes. A few nights ago, I took matters into my own hands to actively look for some male company. I plunged onto my laptop, with its speedy Internet connection (technology and I....well a story for another day), started with "Find a Man", brilliant, pages upon pages of web sites. As I start with enthusiasm to enter the first one, I am greeted with a 5 minute registration form, ok - go for it. Eight pages later, I am fed up, I did trawl through several of these registration requests - not filling them in! All asked about your weight, size, & build. Some asked politely about your dress size, well we all know some stores are a little more generous, so it is a size smaller, plus I am not telling fibs when I go even 3 sizes smaller, because they are in my wardrobe, and I will get into them - one day! Others directly ask what is your weight? Well, I know what it is now, but by the time this works and I actually meet somebody, I will be....... So, if I am thinking like this, how many others do the same?

Better idea, I will look at the men - who are braver than me and have sat through this whole process to get onto the pages. What am I looking for, I know Melanie has not popped her clogs yet, so Antonio Banderas will not be available for a while! General data in, hey presto a list of males, what are they looking for? Age 25-45, tall, slim, blonde, great - I can tick one box, tall, ok I can go blonde, and all of their descriptions are on the conservative side, maybe a few extra pounds.

I can accept that there would be a bigger male queue to date Julia Roberts than Dawn French, also for ladies to see Mel Gibson rather than Robby Coltraine, but by the time I shut the whole thing down, I was back to square one and feeling fat.

The whole "fat" issue is almost a trillion dollar industry. One pound of fat means so many things, to so many people. For some a fleeting thought, to others a cause for suicide. The actual fat itself is not the problem, but the reality to ourselves of what it makes us feel; reality like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The good news is we can choose to do something about it, but that choice is personal. When you have made that choice it is time to look for support, that is probably the next big issue. Family, friends, press, social conditioning all add to our concepts of how we look and feel.

So,if you have any "fat issues" drop me a line and we will continue.
